Job Overview:

Summary

The Shipping Jockey Driver is responsible for safely moving trailers within the poultry processing facility yard, shipping docks, and designated parking areas. This position supports shipping and transportation operations by positioning trailers for loading and unloading, maintaining trailer flow, and ensuring compliance with company safety, USDA, HACCP, GMP, and OSHA standards within a refrigerated poultry processing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely move empty and loaded trailers between docks, staging areas, parking lots, and designated yard locations. 
  • Position trailers at loading docks for shipping and receiving operations. 
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on jockey trucks and trailers. 
  • Inspect trailers for cleanliness, structural condition, and proper temperature settings prior to loading. 
  • Maintain organized trailer flow and yard traffic to support efficient shipping operations. 
  • Communicate with shipping personnel, dispatchers, supervisors, and drivers regarding trailer movements and dock assignments. 
  • Ensure trailers are properly secured and docked before loading or unloading activities begin. 
  • Follow USDA, HACCP, GMP, OSHA, DOT, sanitation, and company safety procedures. 
  • Report equipment malfunctions, trailer damage, safety hazards, or accidents immediately to management. 
  • Maintain accurate trailer movement logs and required documentation. 
  • Assist with shipping and warehouse activities as needed during downtime. 
  • Support inventory control and shipping efficiency initiatives within the department. 
  • Maintain cleanliness and safe operating conditions within the yard and dock areas.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must have avaliddriverlicense
  • Experience with two way radios
  • Experience with driving tractor trailers a plus

Knowledge/Skills

  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • CDL certification preferred. 
  • Experience in poultry processing, food manufacturing, or warehouse distribution environments. 
  • Previous yard jockey, shuttle driver, warehouse, transportation, or trucking experience preferred. 
  • Basic understanding of DOT safety regulations and trailer inspection procedures preferred
  • Knowledge of tractor trailers 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment. 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. 
  • Excellent attention to detail

Work Environment

This position operates within a poultry processing facility, shipping yard, and cold storage environment with exposure to moving vehicles, heavy equipment, refrigerated temperatures, noise, moisture, and varying outdoor weather conditions.
