About the Role

As a Shipfitter 1st Class, you’ll be at the core of assembling and fitting steel structures, ensuring ships are built to the highest standards of strength and precision. Responsibilities
- Cut, grind, bend, and shape steel components to specified measurements and angles.
- Read and interpret complex blueprints and templates to assemble and install structural ship parts.
- Use trade-specific tools (grinders, hand torches, hydraulic/ratchet jacks, chain falls, come-a-longs, framing squares, levels, plumb bobs) to fabricate and fit steel plates and beams.
- Align and secure metal components for accurate structural assembly.
- Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions across multiple shifts to meet production schedules.
- Maintain exemplary safety standards, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork.
Required Skills and Experience
- 3-5 years of shipfitting or structural steel fabrication experience.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints (metric and standard).
- Solid understanding of structural layout and steel fabrication techniques.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with fabrication tools.
- Strong math, reading, and comprehension abilities.
- Proven commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Preferred Skills
- Advanced knowledge of shipboard installation and structural alignment.
- Experience in high-volume or military vessel construction.
