Job Overview:

Position Title: Supervisor Department: Printing Operations


Classification: Exempt Location: Warminster


Reports to Directly: Operations Manager



Position Purpose:


The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production activities within the printing facility. This position ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of printing presses, die cutting, sheeting equipment, and finishing processes while meeting production schedules, customer specifications, and company quality standards. The Shift Supervisor leads production personnel, coordinates workflow, monitors equipment performance, and drives continuous improvement initiatives.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Production Management

· Supervise and coordinate all shift activities related to printing, die cutting, and sheeting operations.

· Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining quality and efficiency standards.

· Monitor workflow and allocate labor resources to maximize productivity.

· Review production orders, specifications, and priorities for each shift.

· Communicate production goals, schedule changes, and operational updates to team members.

· Assist with machine setup, troubleshooting, and changeovers as needed.

Quality Control

· Ensure products meet customer specifications and company quality requirements.

· Conduct routine inspections of printed and die-cut products.

· Investigate and resolve quality issues, defects, and non-conformances.

· Maintain accurate production and quality records.

· Coordinate corrective actions to reduce waste and improve consistency.

Leadership and Team Development

· Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate production employees.

· Enforce company policies, procedures, and work instructions.

· Foster a positive and accountable work environment.

· Conduct shift meetings and communicate safety, quality, and production objectives.

· Assist in employee performance reviews and disciplinary actions when necessary.

Safety and Compliance

· Promote and enforce all safety regulations and company safety practices.

· Ensure team members use required PPE and follow machine guarding procedures.

· Investigate workplace incidents and implement corrective actions.

· Maintain compliance with OSHA, environmental, and company requirements.

· Support housekeeping and 6S initiatives throughout the production area.

Equipment and Maintenance

· Monitor equipment performance and production efficiency.

· Coordinate with maintenance personnel regarding repairs and preventive maintenance.

· Identify opportunities to improve machine uptime and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

· Ensure operators perform routine maintenance and inspections.

Inventory and Materials Management

· Verify availability of paper, inks, dies, tooling, and other production materials.

· Coordinate material movements to support production schedules.

· Minimize waste and ensure proper handling of materials and finished goods.

· Assist with inventory accuracy and cycle counts as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:


· Required knowledge/Education:

· High School/GED


· Knowledge in inventory control, supervisory skills and customer relations.


· Full knowledge of IQMS software.


· Must know basic printing color and be able to match customer proofs.


Experience Required:

· 3-5 years of experience in printing, packaging, converting, die cutting, or related manufacturing operations. Minimum 1-2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.

Skills/Abilities

· Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Must have strong time management skills.

Quality Standards: Must be able to understand quality standards and perform quality checks.

Safety: To maintain proper safety standards according to established Sanitary and Housekeeping Practices (GMP Compliance) Proper use of all safety equipment i.e.: proper use of personal protective gear including hairnets, gloves and safety glasses.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand and walk throughout the production floor for extended periods, frequently for most of the shift.

· Ability to sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, and reach above and below shoulder level.

· Ability to use hands and fingers to operate computers, controls, tools, and production equipment.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, with assistance or mechanical equipment when appropriate.

· Ability to push, pull, and maneuver materials, carts, and equipment.

· Ability to work around moving machinery and tolerate noise, vibration, heat, odors, ink, solvents, dust, and other conditions typically found in a printing facility.

· Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, and other PPE required for the work area.

· Sufficient vision—including close, distance, color, depth, and peripheral vision—to inspect print quality, identify defects, read job specifications, and safely monitor equipment.

· Sufficient hearing and communication ability to receive instructions, communicate with employees, and recognize alarms and warning signals in a noisy environment.

· Ability to move quickly and respond appropriately to production problems, equipment issues, and emergencies.

· Ability to work overtime or extended shifts when necessary.
