Overview
SMI Composites is seeking a driven and hands-on 1st Shift Supervisor or 2nd Shift, depending on what you prefer, to lead daily production operations and ensure safety, quality, and efficiency across the shop floor. This role is critical in driving team performance, meeting production targets, and maintaining a high standard of operational excellence.
You’ll be responsible for supervising team members, coordinating workflow, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of production employees on 1st shift
- Ensure daily production targets, quality standards, and delivery schedules are met
- Monitor workflow, staffing, and resources to optimise efficiency
- Enforce safety policies and promote a strong safety-first culture
- Conduct daily shift meetings and communicate priorities clearly to the team
- Identify and resolve production issues in real time
- Collaborate with Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to address concerns
- Support training and onboarding of new employees
- Track performance metrics and report on shift productivity
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (lean, waste reduction, process improvements)
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and customer requirements
Requirements
- 2+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment (composites or automotive preferred)
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on production setting
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and production flow
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles is a plus
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Effective communication and organisational skills
- Proficient with basic computer systems and reporting tools
- High school diploma or GED required; further education or certifications preferred
