Position Summary

A Master Machinist is the expert on making a part using extensive mechanical knowledge, blueprint interpretation, and hands-on experience. This person will focus on the first-time setup of parts on various machines in a high-paced, high-mix, tight-tolerance, regulated environment. This position requires close collaboration with the Engineering and NPI Programming teams. The successful candidate can work under pressure to meet deadlines in rapid-fire, quick-turn scenarios.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the machining aspects of a New Part production process
  • Work closely with the programming team to ensure an understanding of the program’s intent prior to setup
  • Make minor modifications to programs as necessary
  • Ensure first-time setups of New Parts meet customer specifications and deadlines
  • Collaborate with Quality on inspection methods and data analysis with First Part Good in mind
  • Process optimization feedback to the Engineering and Programming teams with future production in mind
  • Collaborate with the NPI team during estimation, DFM meetings, and Kick Offs
  • Create well-documented process notes with future production in mind

Required Skills

  • Expertise in more than one of the following types of CNC machines with the ability and desire to learn the others. (3, 4, and 5-axis CNC mills, multi-spindle lathes, and Swiss type machines)
  • Self-sufficiency while working with a team
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of GD&T
  • Working knowledge of CNC programming. Esprit is preferred and can be trained
  • Ability to interpret CMM programming and outputs with verification using manual methods

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of sustained experience with setup and operation in precision CNC machining
  • Physical ability to handle shop environment demands, including moving work holdings and raw material as needed

Working Conditions: office and factory floor

Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
