Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Setup CNC Machinist to join our production team. In this role, you won’t just be "pushing a button." You will be the bridge between a raw technical drawing and a finished precision part. You will be responsible for the end-to-end setup of complex jobs on multi-axis CNC and rotary transfer machines, ensuring that the first piece off the line meets our exacting quality standards before handing the process over to operators.

Core Responsibilities
• Machine Setup: Interpret blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and setup sheets to prepare machines for production. This includes installing tools, loading programs, and setting work offsets.
• First-Article Inspection: Perform the initial run of a part and conduct a comprehensive inspection using micrometers, calipers, and CMM equipment to verify accuracy.
• Program Troubleshooting: Review G-code and M-code to identify potential errors. Perform "dry runs" and "single-block" execution to ensure tool paths are safe and efficient.
• Tooling Management: Select, assemble, and preset the correct cutting tools and holders. Monitor tool wear and make necessary offsets or replacements to maintain tolerances.
• Process Optimization: Collaborate with Programming and Engineering teams to suggest improvements in cycle times, tool life, and fixture stability.
• Mentorship: Provide guidance to machine operators on part loading, basic offset adjustments, and quality checks once the setup is finalized.

• Metrology: Expert-level skill with precision measuring instruments (bore gages, height gages, optical comparators).
• Math Skills: Strong grasp of shop math, including trigonometry and geometry, for calculating speeds, feeds, and coordinates.
• Blueprint Literacy: Ability to read complex industrial drawings and understand tight tolerances.

Soft Skills
• Problem-Solving: You should enjoy the "puzzle" of a difficult setup and stay calm when a tool path isn't behaving as expected.
• Precision Mindset: A "close enough" attitude doesn't work here. We value "right the first time."
• Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical issues to both engineers and entry-level operators.
