HEAVY DUTY TRUCK MECHANIC

SHIFT TIME: 8:00AM TO 4:30PM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY WITH OT AVAILABLE BASED ON BUSINESS NEEDS. INCLUDES TWO PAID 15-MINUTE BREAKS AND AN UPDAID 30-MINUTE LUNCH.

NO NIGHTS! NO WEEKENDS! 

Valley Truck Parts is looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic to join our team. This role is ideal for a mechanic who enjoys troubleshooting, working with heavy-duty vehicles, and tackling a variety of mechanical repairs.

The Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, removing, and installing heavy-duty drivetrain components, including transmissions, differentials, clutches, and driveshafts. The position will also perform general truck repairs and preventative maintenance to keep customer vehicles safe and operating properly.

You’ll work with a variety of heavy-duty equipment and have the opportunity to use your mechanical and diagnostic skills across multiple systems.

What You'll Do

  • Remove, repair, and reinstall heavy-duty drivetrain components safely and efficiently.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues and determine the appropriate repair.
  • Repair and replace components including brakes, brake lines, hydraulic lines, steering components, pumps, valve bodies, and electrical components.
  • Perform preventative and routine DOT maintenance on heavy-duty trucks.
  • Perform inspections and identify potential maintenance or repair needs.
  • Road test customer vehicles to help diagnose issues and verify completed repairs.
  • Read and interpret service information, manuals, and schematics as needed.
  • Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Work independently while also collaborating with the service team.
  • Cross-train in other areas and assist with additional duties as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2+ years of heavy-duty truck or diesel mechanic experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic/troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with heavy-duty drivetrain systems such as transmissions, differentials, clutches, and/or driveshafts.
  • Knowledge of heavy-duty brake, suspension, steering, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work independently and confidently troubleshoot mechanical problems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe, quality repairs.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to provide personal hand tools up to ¾" drive.
  • CDL required or ability to obtain one.

Certifications: Heavy-duty brake, suspension/steering, driveline, electrical, or related certifications are a plus. Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to safely perform hands-on mechanical work in a shop environment, including:

  • Frequently lifting and carrying parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
  • Working underneath and around heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Frequently reaching, handling tools, and working overhead.
  • Using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Occasionally climbing steps or ladders to access vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintaining sufficient vision and hearing to safely inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicles.
  • Communicating effectively with coworkers and customers.
