This is a hands-on, working Tool Maker role responsible for both building and leading tooling efforts from kickoff through completion. In addition to performing toolmaking work on the floor, this role serves as the go-to resource for project status, timelines, and decision-making. You’ll play a key role in balancing in-house production and outsourcing, while ensuring projects stay on track, on budget, and aligned with business goals.
Top Objectives:
- Build validated tooling to meet tight tolerances and precision requirements
- Own and communicate tooling timelines, serving as the primary point of accountability for completion dates
- Evaluate and decide when work should be completed in-house vs. outsourced
- Manage relationships with external vendors to ensure quality, timing, and cost targets are met
- Participate in tool kickoff meetings to align scope, timing, and expectations
- Track and manage tooling costs and labor hours to protect profitability margins
- Support performance management and annual reviews for direct reports
This role is required to be on-site 5 days at the Clinton Township, MI location.
