Job Overview:

Senior Staff Engineer — Operational Excellence

Location: Fremont, CA (on-site)
Role Level: Senior Staff Engineer

About the Role

Bloom is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer in Operational Excellence to drive system-level performance across our factory operations. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and strategy—translating complex, dynamic factory conditions into clear priorities, decisions, and measurable outcomes.

You will operate as a senior technical leader, shaping how capacity, layout, flow, and performance come together to deliver results. This is a high-impact role that requires both strategic thinking and deep engagement with on-the-ground reality.

What You’ll Do

Leadership & Integration

  • Serve as a senior technical leader across Operational Excellence initiatives, ensuring alignment across engineering and production

  • Integrate inputs across capacity, layout, flow, and performance into cohesive, actionable insights

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, elevating technical rigor and problem-solving capability

  • Step into leadership responsibilities as needed to maintain continuity and execution

Strategic Steering

  • Define strategic targets and drive prioritization of key factory initiatives

  • Identify major risks, tradeoffs, and critical decision points, ensuring leadership visibility

  • Lead cross-functional alignment on factory priorities, balancing competing constraints

Executive Reporting & Communication

  • Own and deliver a weekly operational excellence summary, including:

    • Top risks and mitigation plans

    • Key changes, trends, and emerging signals

    • Areas requiring leadership attention and decision

  • Translate complex operational data into clear narratives for executive audiences

Capacity Management & Planning

  • Develop and utilize capacity models to support scenario planning and decision-making

  • Translate changes in factory conditions into quantified output and performance impact

  • Continuously monitor trends, proactively identifying risks and opportunities

Factory Reality Validation

  • Validate reported performance against on-the-ground conditions to ensure accuracy

  • Convert ambiguous or loosely defined factory issues into structured problem statements

  • Drive root-cause clarity and ensure issues are framed for effective resolution

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing, operations, industrial engineering, or related fields

  • Demonstrated ability to operate at a systems level across complex production environments

  • Strong analytical and modeling skills, particularly in capacity planning and performance optimization

  • Proven track record of influencing cross-functional teams and driving alignment without authority

  • Excellent communication skills, with experience engaging executive stakeholders

  • Ability to translate ambiguity into structured, actionable plans

  • Lead initiatives to improve productivity, throughput, labor efficiency, and overall manufacturing performance.

  • Develop and maintain capacity models, labor standards, and time-study methodologies.

  • Analyze production processes and implement solutions to improve flow, eliminate bottlenecks, and increase resource utilization.

  • Develop business cases and recommendations for automation, equipment, process improvements, and capital investments.

  • Create performance metrics, dashboards, and analytical tools to drive data-based decision making.

  • Support the forecast and timing of production ramps, new product introductions, and manufacturing capacity expansions.

  • Establish industrial engineering standards, methodologies, and best practices while mentoring and developing engineers.

  • Lead complex cross-functional projects that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in high-volume or advanced manufacturing environments

  • Background in industrial engineering, operations research, or similar disciplines

  • Familiarity with factory modeling, simulation, or advanced planning tools
