About the Job:
The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading and delivering capital, sustaining capital, infrastructure, and operational improvement projects from concept through commissioning. This role provides technical leadership, project management expertise, and cross-functional coordination to ensure projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with site objectives.
The Senior Project Engineer works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Process, Environmental, Supply Chain, Finance, and external contractors to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining strong safety, environmental, and engineering standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of capital and sustaining capital projects from concept selection through commissioning and project closeout.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, risks, and resource requirements.
- Prepare project charters, cost estimates, business cases, and authorization requests for management approval.
- Coordinate engineering design activities performed by internal teams and external consultants.
- Develop and manage project schedules utilizing project management best practices.
- Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions to maintain project objectives.
- Manage contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
- Coordinate procurement activities for project equipment, materials, and contracted services.
- Conduct field inspections to verify project progress, quality, and compliance with design requirements.
- Support annual capital planning and long-range site infrastructure planning processes.
- Develop and monitor project KPIs including cost performance, schedule adherence, safety metrics, and project deliverables.
- Facilitate project risk assessments, constructability reviews, and hazard identification processes.
- Ensure projects comply with applicable regulatory, environmental, permitting, and company requirements.
- Support commissioning, startup, and operational handover activities.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities that improve operational reliability, efficiency, safety, and cost performance.
- Prepare project progress reports and presentations for site and corporate leadership.
- Manage change control processes and maintain project documentation.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams and provide mentoring to engineers, technical staff, and project coordinators.
- Develop business improvement initiatives that increase value and optimize resources. Implement and monitor KPIs to demonstrate initiatives are being met.
- Periodically audit engineering processes and propose improvements (grade control, planning, field work) to remain within industry standards.
- Provide input for LOM planning sequence and help develop plans for pit access and expansions.
- Develop audit process to ensure that deliverables meet engineering standards.
- Coordinate with operations dept. to ensure plans/projects are understood and achievable and that proper resources have been allocated to properly execute plans or projects.
- Prepare TR in accordance with NI 43-101 and new SK 1300 guidelines
- Plan and administer budget needs.
- Act immediately to correct safety concerns or address opportunities to improve.
- Provide technical leadership to all departments. Coach and mentor staff within department.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Mining, Electrical, Chemical, or related engineering discipline).
- Professional Engineer (PE) designation preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
- Minimum 8-10 years of engineering and project management experience in mining, heavy industrial, construction, chemical processing, or related industries.
- Experience managing capital projects from concept through commissioning.
- Demonstrated experience with contractor management and construction oversight.
- Strong understanding of project controls, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
- Experience preparing capital appropriations, business cases, and economic evaluations.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project. Also experience in AutoCAD, Vulcan, Whittle, and Trimble GPS software.
- Experience with project scheduling software (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent).
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents.
- Understanding of engineering design principles and industrial construction practices.
- Familiarity with procurement, contract administration, and contractor management processes.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience
- Mining industry experience.
- Heap leach, process plant, infrastructure, crushing, material handling, water management, or mine facilities project experience.
- Experience managing projects exceeding $1M in value.
- Familiarity with MSHA regulations and mining operational environments.
- Experience supporting brownfield facility expansions and operational improvement initiatives.
