The Senior Process Engineer - Nitric Acid is responsible for technical studies, technical project implementation, assisting the General Manager in compliance with all safety and environmental regulations, and maintaining the hardware and software of all process computers.  The Process Engineer must always maintain a high level of knowledge of the site process unit with a sub-specialization in the DCS control system for the process.  Due to the size of the plant sites, and the critical role that regulatory compliance plays in meeting the terms of the client’s contract, high daily attendance for this position is a critical requirement for the job.  

Travel: 50%+ depending on needs

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical studies for unit optimization, with emphasis on safety, environmental, reliability, efficiency, and cost improvement strategies. This would include at least:  plant design improvements, operating procedures, and DCS configuration.  This work would often be in cooperation with the Manufacturing Expert, General Manager and Maintenance Manager. 
  • Participation in team design engineering efforts to identify and achieve process and cost improvements in the process. 
  • Prepare AFE’s, MOC’s, Incident Reports, when technical issues are the predominate issue.   Approve all MOC’s for technical details, process hazard analysis reviews and pre-startup safety reviews.   
  • Serve as main point of contact as well as work cross-functionally with accounting, operations, and maintenance for all plant technical issues. 
  • Maintain the Process Safety Information (including P&ID updates). 
  • Responsibility for the administration of the Management of Change program.  Monitoring the status of MOC records to assure they are up to date and tracking progress of all assigned action items to completion. 
  • Responsible for all process computers (Invensys Triconex, Alan Bradley, Turbolog, Bentley Nevada) relative to updates, maintenance, programming, safety systems function testing, trouble shooting and training of maintenance and operations personnel as required. 
  • Coordination of Analyzer Group support activities at all plant site locations. 
  • Maintain / Develop software (Invensys displays, PI displays, Spreadsheets) that would facilitate daily review of utility and raw material consumption figures and production data to ensure optimal plant operations.  
  • On-site liaison with Client’s Environmental Control department and quality control laboratory. 
  • Assistance to the Controller in the reconciliation of production, utility, and raw material consumption data. 
  • Rotating on-call responsibility for after-hours operations and management decisions.   
  • Share the responsibility, as designated by the General Manager, of periodic review and update of safety and operating procedures as needed to maintain safe, environmentally sound and highly secure plant operations.   
  • Be a back-up for the Manufacturing Expert as needed. 
  • Responsible for, with the assistance and oversight of the VP Safety & Environmental Compliance, overseeing & submission of all required environmental reports as specified in the Responsible Care Database and Legal Matrix.(e.g. annual RATA, quarterly CGA’s) 
  • Primary coordinator of the N2O Project to capture, analyze, report, and predict N2O emission reductions. 
  • Responsible for assuring completion of all regulatory reporting activities. This includes reviewing, updating, and maintaining the (M) SDS and product specification files (with assistance from the Maintenance Administrator) to ensure they are current, accurate, and reflect the most current inventory of products in the plant. 
  • Maintain the CEMS system required for all emissions reporting according to the Quality Assurance procedures established under the consent decree. 

Qualifications


 

  • 10+ years of experience 

Software Qualifications: 

  • Pi experience 
  • Microsoft Office Suite 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Has experience working in the Nitric Acid field. 
  • Foxboro DCS experience 
  • Project Engineering experience 
  • Someone who has previously led projects under $3 million. 

 

Education Experience Required:  

  • BS Chemical Engineering  
  • 3+ years’ minimum Chemical Processing Plant experience
