Role Description:
Collins Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for a proven Senior Principal Project Engineer to lead, develop, and establish the required technology and infrastructure for the Platform Connectivity Technology portfolio. This multi-faceted role will lead cross-functional teams through system architecture, development, integration, and testing of new systems. The ideal candidate should be an established technical leader that can leverage proven experience integrating systems onto DoD platforms. This position requires: US Government Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance Day 1.
Onsite: This is an onsite role supporting our Richardson, TX location.
What YOU will do:
Directs all phases of programs from inception through completion while meeting program schedule and budget
Plans and coordinates the administrative and operational aspects of ongoing projects within program guidelines
Liaises between systems engineering, systems architects, program management, planning, functional engineering teams, first line and executive leadership
Monitors and assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction goals and objectives
Establishes measurable program metrics and associated data analysis methods
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for coordinating with Management, Software Lead, Software Architect, Systems Lead, Systems Architect, Hardware Lead, Hardware Architect, Product Owners, CAMs, and Chief Engineer to enable successful execution of systems engineering scope for a program team of 50+ systems engineers
Prepare and maintain project plans, budgets, and demand forecasts to ensure that all action item lists are completed, and project quality expectations are met
Prepare and maintain artifacts required for Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) events such as SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, IBR, PRR, TRR, FCA, PCA
Understand customer technical requirements and their derivation. Oversee the transfer of lowest level requirements into development and test for prototype and customer deliveries
Drive project schedules to keep programs running efficiently and tracks budget and schedule commitments
Manage the project including tracking & reporting on budget and schedule performance through Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) techniques
Interface with cross-functional teams such as management, program management, executive leadership, suppliers, customers, contracts, manufacturing, and members of the technical design team
Provide timely and effective communication to management and customers
Engineering activities associated with design, development, procurement, and testing
Lead Technology Development programs guiding products through Technology Readiness Level process
Support test activities to prove out prototypes/components and/or understand issues
Benchmark similar systems and review customer needs to strategically drive system, software, and hardware development and integration
Ensure excellence in engineering and technology
What You Will Learn:
As our next project engineer, you will learn from the best and brightest in the communications and nuclear deterrence domain working at Collins Aerospace. You will assume a Project Engineer role focused on coordination of a systems engineering team in the full product lifecycle of an NC3 airborne platform. You will work across functions including program management, planning, and engineering teams across the product lifecycle. The project engineer also supports the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contracts. This is a very visible position at the forefront of one of our most important development efforts.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree iand a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience is required
Active and transferable U.S. Government DoD Secret Security Clearance is required prior to start date
Must have a US Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
U.S. Citizen - U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Able to communicate and make presentations to senior level leadership
Able to travel up to 25% of the time depending on the program phase
Qualifications We Prefer:
US Government Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret clearance
Progressive leadership in the design, development, test, and integration of airborne platform systems
Experience using Agile methodologies for product development
Experience in effective Change Management practices
Experience with Bid and Proposal efforts
Prior Cost Account Manager experience is helpful
Experience navigating competing priorities, delivering the highest level of engagement, and delivering successful outcomes in critical situations
Experience leading projects and teams within a highly matrixed organization
Understanding of Aerospace engineering design and analysis review/release process.
Understanding of the configuration management process
Strong Project management skills using MS Office/MS Project/EVMS
Data Analytics tool experience a plus: e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, PowerApps, Alteryx, etc
Identification of risks early on and ability to manage/mitigate by leveraging Sr. Leadership Support.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
