DoD Clearance: SecretCollins Aerospace’s Power & Controls team is looking for a Senior Principal Engineer to play a pivotal role in advancing our Electro-Hydraulic Servo Valve technologies—critical components used in both commercial and military aircraft systems. This position, based in either Rockford, IL or Windsor Locks, CT, offers a unique opportunity to lead at the intersection of innovation, systems integration, and technical execution.

What You Will Do
Lead the development, maturation, and execution of technical strategies and roadmaps for electro-hydraulic servo valves, aligning with product and business goals.
Establish and evolve performance and design evaluation criteria to meet current and future system needs.
Identify and deliver cost-effective, next-generation servo valve solutions that exceed customer expectations and strengthen competitive positioning.
Translate complex technical strategies into clear, actionable plans—communicating effectively across engineering teams and senior leadership.
Lead high-performing teams by mentoring engineers and identifying critical skillsets needed to establish a world-class electro-mechanical engineering group.
Create and maintain technical documentation, standard work, and design tools to drive consistency, quality, and efficiency.
Provide technical leadership and input for proposal efforts, helping to secure new business opportunities involving electro-hydraulic servo valves.
Collaborate with program teams to define and implement development plans that meet performance, durability, cost, and manufacturability targets.
Lead technical execution across design, analysis, procurement, and test activities for new servo valve developments.
Deliver solutions that align with overall product strategy, ensuring integration with broader system and customer requirements.
Qualifications You Must Have
Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
Qualifications We Prefer
Bachelors in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical, or Electrical
8+ years of hands-on experience in the design, development, and testing of electromechanical or electro-hydraulic systems, preferably in the aerospace or defense industry
Strong electromechanical design skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions for complex technical challenges
Experience working as a key technical contributor within cross-functional project teams
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers across disciplines and geographies, and to leverage a strong professional network
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical content in formal design reviews and stakeholder discussions
Experience supporting technical proposal development and contributing to long-term product and technology roadmaps
