Job Overview:

Overview

Are you a master of your craft with a keen eye for detail? Our custom sheet metal fabrication shop is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Metal Finisher / Polisher to be the final touch on our custom-fabricated products. We create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces for architectural, ornamental, and specialty projects. If you take pride in making metal perfect and want to be part of a team that respects your trade, this is the role for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Execute Flawless Finishes: Read and interpret blueprints and job orders to achieve precise finishes, including mirror, brushed, and matte on various metals.

  • Abrasive Mastery: Use a variety of tools, including angle grinders, orbital sanders, bench polishers, and belt sanders, to remove welds, scratches, and burrs. You'll progress through coarse to fine abrasives, ensuring a seamless, consistent finish.

  • Precision and Quality Control: Visually inspect parts under different lighting to catch subtle imperfections. You will use gauges, straightedges, and surface-finish tools to ensure parts meet exacting client standards.

  • Materials Expertise: You will primarily work with stainless steel (304, 316), using specialized techniques to prevent heat discoloration and warping. You'll also handle aluminum and carbon steel, adjusting your approach for each material's unique properties.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with welders and fabricators to address and correct any issues before the final finishing stage.

  • Final Preparations: Clean and degrease surfaces, then apply protective coatings or films to prepare the finished product for shipping.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: You're a seasoned veteran with 3-5 years of professional experience as a polisher or metal finisher, preferably in a custom fabrication environment.

  • Technical Skill: You have a deep understanding of finishing techniques and are a true expert with stainless steel. You can achieve a flawless mirror polish and a uniform brushed grain with minimal rework.

  • Physical Stamina: You are comfortable with the physical demands of the job, including frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs, standing for 8–10 hours per day, and repetitive use of hand tools (weighing 5–15 lbs). You have excellent near vision and touch sensitivity.

  • Attention to Detail: You have an unwavering focus on quality. A successful candidate will consistently achieve a pass rate of 95% or higher on initial QC inspections and be able to blend repairs seamlessly.

  • Team Player: You're a reliable and communicative individual who can work independently but also collaborates effectively with your team.

Why Join Us?

  • Respect for Your Trade: We recognize that metal finishing is a skilled craft, not just grunt labor. We value your expertise and give you the autonomy to perfect your work.

  • Supportive Culture: Our shop has a low-politics environment with clear communication and teamwork between all departments.

  • Competitive Pay: We offer a competitive wage based on experience, with a starting range of $25–$30/hr.

  • Standard Schedule: Enjoy a consistent Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM schedule.
