The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon’s CORE principles. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems, electronic modules, pedestals, and power and cooling systems. The department comprises individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.
We are looking to staff the AN/TPY-2 program with a Senior Mechanical Engineer in support of sustainment activities and Contractor Logistics Support (CLS). The AN/TPY-2 is the world’s most advanced mobile radar system. The TPY radar is a multi-functional X-band radar which may be deployed globally in either terminal or forward-based mode. Numerous TPY radar systems are currently deployed around the world and are an integral part of the U.S. Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). This can include design and technical data package support to task order changes, obsolescence, upgrades and capabilities.
The role is primarily based out of Tewksbury, MA and may require travel to the Andover manufacturing facilities for team engagement and hardware assessments. There is potential travel to all off site and/or foreign AN/TPY-2 tactical locations, often with minimal response time.
This position is onsite and can either be in Tewksbury, MA or Woburn, MA
What You Will Do:
Provide design and hardware support of the AN/TPY-2 system
Provide support of the AN/TPY-2 system for upgrades, including TDP alignment and potentially hands-on integration. in all states and modes of preventative & corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the radar.
Work with a senior team to retain a mission ready focus and always maintain a deployable status.
Provide technical conscience, challenged with making sure the product and process meet appropriate standards and requirements
Support and participate in design peer reviews, closing action items, resolving issues, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure team members are aligned and aware of team goals and potential obstacles. Lead retrospectives to discuss what went well, what could be improved, and identify actionable improvements using methods within and beyond the Customer-Oriented Results and Excellence (CORE) system.
Engage in program proposal activity and Estimate at Completions (EAC) responsibility
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 9+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
3 years minimum experience in designing and developing mechanical equipment, preferably for use in Military environments.
Experience with phase array structures, hardware packaging, and array integration for military or mechanical or commercial applications
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience with the AN/TPY-2 Radar System and/or Missile Defense programs
Proven mechanical design ability in a production environment
Detail orientated and demonstrated ability to effectively work in cross-functional a team environment
Strong technical aptitude.
Must be able to handle high-stress situations well.
Experience with CREO (Pro/E) or similar 3D solid modeling software
Experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent configuration/data management software
Must possess strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
Must be able to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
