Under the direction of the Engineering Group Lead, the

**Senior Mechanical Engineer

** serves as a key contributor in the design and delivery of custom industrial shot blast equipment. Beginning with project kickoff from Applications Engineering, this role is responsible for engineering calculations, 3D modeling, and the development of machine designs, including sheet metal components and complex custom assemblies. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work with minimal supervision, support manufacturing teams, and provide field assistance as needed to ensure successful equipment build, installation, and operation.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities

**

**Design & Engineering Leadership

**

  • Serve as lead mechanical engineer on assigned projects, collaborating closely with engineering leads, project engineers, manufacturing, assembly, and sales.

  • Lead machine design efforts, including sheet metal design, weldments, mechanisms, and custom equipment layouts.

  • Apply engineering fundamentals and practical manufacturing knowledge (welding, machining, fabrication processes) to solve complex design challenges.

  • Perform engineering calculations, validate design integrity, and review analytical work from other engineers for accuracy.

  • Guide and mentor less experienced engineers in best practices, design approaches, and modeling techniques.

  • Assist in defining project technical requirements, design strategies, and standards.

  • Hold self and support team accountable to company and customer for meeting timelines and company objectives.

**Project Execution

**

  • Manage the mechanical engineering scope of assigned projects to ensure alignment with cost, schedule, function, and quality objectives.

  • Lead communication on engineering status, design reviews, release timelines, and key project milestones on a daily/weekly basis.

  • Prepare release packages including models, detailed drawings, BOMs, and supporting documentation.

**Cross-Functional Support

**

  • Support Manufacturing, Assembly, and Field Installation teams by answering questions, resolving design issues, and making timely revisions.

  • Participating in or leading the development of SOPs, design guides, engineering standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Partner with project managers to maintain schedule focus and ensure project execution remains aligned with customer requirements.

**Field & Customer Interaction

**

  • Provide field support and occasional site travel to assist with equipment installation, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and ensure proper system functionality.

  • Attend customer design reviews to present concepts, gather feedback, and refine equipment configurations.

**Qualifications

**

  • Expertise in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D software.

  • Demonstrate ability to successfully design equipment to function, budget, and timelines.

  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet company objectives.

  • Strong interpersonal & written skills with desire to be an active team member.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with computer skills MS Office, MS Project or Smartsheet.

**Education and/or Experience

**

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

  • 5–15 years of progressively responsible experience in machine design, custom equipment engineering, or related fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
