Senior Mechanical Engineer (Multiple Openings)

SMS group Inc. seeks Senior Mechanical Engineers to work in Pittsburgh, PA, and be responsible for leading technical design projects for the metals industry. Specific duties include: Create mechanical equipment designs in 2D and 3D CAD; Make mechanical drawings for equipment manufacture; Size machine components utilizing calculations with an understanding of free body diagrams; Utilize the business system (SAP) and CAD system to generate equipment bills of material; Check equipment drawings for design and dimensional accuracy; Technical presentation of SMS group technology to current and prospective customers; and Technical site installation, training and commissioning support.

Must possess, at a minimum, a Bachelor of Science degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, AND at least five (5) years of experience in mechanical design engineering experience for steel or aluminum rolling mill design, caster design, melt shop design, or design of another closely related metallurgical plant equipment type. Previous work experience must have included: At least five (5) years of experience in 2D & 3D CAD software modeling and design for steelmaking equipment; At least two (2) years of experience with mechanical drawing creation, interpretation, and verification; At least two (2) years of experience with mechanical workshop practices, welding procedures, machining, heat treatments, special coatings, and assembly techniques for large-scale equipment specific to steel and other metal production; and At least two (2) years of experience in development of mechanical equipment recovery procedures, ensuring operational safety and equipment performance while adhering to safety and reliability limits.
