Position Summary
The Senior Mechanical Designer is responsible for leading the design, development, and continuous improvement of custom and standard mechanical products. This role drives product innovation, supports manufacturing operations, and provides technical expertise across engineering, production, purchasing, and customer-facing teams. The Senior Mechanical Designer ensures designs meet performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements while supporting projects from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of custom and standard mechanical products and assemblies.
- Create and modify 3D models, drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Develop and maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) and product documentation.
- Evaluate design concepts and implement improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and industry best practices.
- Serve as a technical resource for engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and sales teams.
- Support product launches and engineering change initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and resolve design-related challenges.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers and engineering staff as needed.
- Participate in design reviews and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Troubleshoot mechanical design and assembly issues within manufacturing operations.
- Work closely with production teams to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize product designs.
- Assist in developing tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing processes when required.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to product quality and performance.
- Lead projects focused on product enhancements, cost reductions, and process improvements.
- Manage multiple design projects while meeting timelines and business objectives.
- Research new materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods to support future product development.
- Ensure project documentation is maintained and engineering changes are properly controlled.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, fabrication methods, machining, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience creating and maintaining engineering drawings and Bills of Material (BOMs).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
