Job Description

Ultra Maritime is looking for a talented Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.

  • Lead development projects as a Lead Mechanical/Design Engineer. Depending on the size of the effort, this may be as the sole mechanical engineer on a multi-function team or could include supervision of junior designers on larger projects.

  • Analyze and review equipment designs using 3D CAD models

  • Develop and maintain mechanical design and documentation practices. May be asked to train user groups in these practices

  • Develop and/or direct documentation change order processes and controls and product hardware requirements

  • Provide proposal estimating for Mechanical Engineering efforts

  • Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, or customers on technical specifications, delivery requirements, and quotation parameters

  • Provide strong collaboration with the Sales and Manufacturing teams to align priorities

  • Understand the obligations and liabilities related to the contractual agreements made by the company

  • Knowledge of underwater acoustic transducers is a plus

  • Participate in business and field service trips

  • Coordinate engineering efforts with sub-contracting companies

  • Serve as Project Engineer, supervise the technical team, control cost and schedule, mentor and develop team members, and foster project team synergy

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required

  • 8+ years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering Design

  • Understanding of drafting principles and standards, including GD&T

  • Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance. Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with test equipment design

  • Experience in Manufacturing Engineering and Project Management

  • Proficiency with the following tools:

  • CAD tools (SolidWorks, CREO strongly preferred)

  • Product lifecycle management (Agile PLM preferred)

  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Project)

  • Thermal and/or stress analysis modeling tools a plus

  • Proficiency with Configuration Management processes

  • Good communication and presentation skills; ability to effectively interact with customers and all levels of the management team

  • Basic level of proficiency with machine tools

  • Lean Six Sigma training a plus

  • Strong failure analysis and failure prevention skills

  • Strong team and individual-based problem-solving skills

  • Project Engineering experience and/or training a definite plus
