As Senior Manager, EMEA Trade Compliance, you will play a critical role in shaping and advancing Moderna’s Global Trade & Operations Program throughout the EMEA region. You’ll act as a senior regional trade compliance expert, ensuring all imports and exports are executed efficiently, in full compliance with applicable regulations, and aligned with global and regional business objectives. This role will spearhead strategy, enable operational excellence, and drive continuous improvement through harmonization, digital enablement, and process optimization. You will collaborate cross-functionally and serve as a key liaison to external regulatory authorities, helping Moderna maintain both regulatory integrity and business agility across the region.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Your key responsibilities will be:
Serve as the regional subject matter expert on EMEA customs and trade compliance regulations, offering strategic and operational guidance across internal stakeholders.
Lead the execution of Moderna’s trade compliance programs across classification, valuation, licensing, country of origin, and recordkeeping.
Champion digital optimisation and the integration of trade compliance tools and automation platforms including SAP GTS, MIC, and Descartes.
Monitor evolving regulatory landscapes across the EMEA region and proactively assess their implications for Moderna’s trade operations.
Design, implement, and oversee trade compliance metrics, KPIs, and broker performance dashboards to drive accountability and excellence.
Your responsibilities will also include:
Manage day-to-day support for trade transactions across EMEA, including imports, exports, documentation, and product classification to ensure compliance and timeliness.
Collaborate with Legal, Supply Chain, Finance, Tax, Procurement, and Logistics to embed trade compliance into core business processes.
Identify, propose, and lead cost optimisation initiatives such as special customs regimes, bonded warehouses, and duty relief opportunities.
Lead the preparation for and response to customs audits and investigations, serving as Moderna’s primary interface with EMEA customs and trade authorities.
Deliver training and support knowledge-building initiatives across Moderna’s regional trade compliance network.
Take on additional responsibilities as assigned, contributing to evolving operational and strategic priorities.

As the regional trade compliance lead, you will act autonomously and cross-functionally, owning the end-to-end compliance strategy and execution in EMEA. Your proactive and strategic ownership will be key to ensuring Moderna’s long-term success in this space.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)
Minimum of 10 years of work experience, including at least 6 years in a compliance, legal, auditing, or investigation role in life sciences, preferably in biotechnology, medical device, and/or pharmaceutical industries.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business, Economics, Finance, Supply Chain Management, International Business) or equivalent experience.
Strong expertise in both operational trade execution and project management within complex international environments.
Solid knowledge of EU Union Customs Code and local customs laws across EMEA, including experience in import/export operations, dual-use regulations, classification, valuation, origin, and free trade agreements.
Proven experience managing customs brokers, freight forwarders, and 3PLs, as well as interactions with regulatory bodies across multiple jurisdictions.
Demonstrated leadership in implementing digital trade compliance tools (e.g. SAP GTS, MIC, Descartes, or similar systems).
Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills with the ability to influence across levels and geographies.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
