Position Summary

Reporting to the Associated Director, R&D Quality, this role provides strategic and tactical direction and oversight to manage Innovative Capabilities and Operations, focusing on transforming RDQ capabilities. The Sr. Manager will drive various R&D Quality initiatives for Innovation, Digital Capabilities, and Data Analytics, working closely with Global Quality and R&D teams to ensure successful execution.

The Sr. Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing analytical solutions and key performance metrics to support R&D Quality processes. This role requires strong leadership skills, a digital-first mindset, excellent analytical capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in advocating for user requirements, developing use cases with clearly articulated ROI, and metrics development. Additionally, this role is responsible for ensuring the ongoing business ownership and continuous improvement of currently rolled-out digital and data capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Innovation Strategy:

  • Work closely with key stakeholders and RDQ pillars to understand their innovation needs and propose effective solutions leveraging advanced analytics and Gen AI/Machine Learning solutions to enable process optimization and data-driven decision making.
  • Proactively identify areas for innovation and analytic solutions and create and execute strategies to plan and deliver the capabilities.
  • Continuously assess the external landscape and stay informed about industry practices and new developments, proposing fit-for-purpose solutions to support, enhance, and optimize R&D Quality processes.
  • Champion a digital first mindset and culture of Innovation.
  • Attend and present at industry conferences to represent BMS, share insights, and gather knowledge on emerging trends. Use these learnings to advance RDQ Innovation strategies and keep our processes at the forefront of industry standards.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for enhancing the maturity of RDQ processes and innovation solutions, such as process optimization, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Promote data as an asset and focus on delivering metrics and KPIs that generate meaningful insights.
  • Visualize data insights in a clear, compelling, and easily understandable manner.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of dashboards in collaboration with RDQ pillars and BI&T to ensure real-time visibility and drive accountability and actions.
  • Utilize analytical tools and software to analyze R&D Quality data, identify patterns, and generate insights.
  • Apply statistical analysis techniques to assess R&D quality trends and identify areas for improvement.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Provide recommendations to enhance metrics that measure and predict GxP compliance, quality, and risks.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on emerging technologies, advanced analytics, AI, and machine learning solutions, including training teams to increase adoption of implemented solutions.
  • Promote and enable a culture of psychological safety, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Develop and provide regular reports and updates to RDQ leadership highlighting areas of strength and opportunities for further development.
  • Provide data and input to drive continuous improvement efforts across the enterprise as applicable.
  • Collaborate with BI&T and Global Quality teams to optimize data curation and analysis processes.
  • Function and act as QA representative (SME) for functional area relevant topics.
  • Lead/Participate as QA representative in internal work streams, projects, and improvement initiatives.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure compliance with BMS processes, SOPs, and regulatory standards, and be responsible for the quality of deliverables.
  • Provide direction and critical input in setting, monitoring, and analyzing globally aligned metrics across R&D Quality pillars spanning Clinical Quality, Laboratory Sciences Quality, and Pharmacovigilance Quality.
  • Stay updated on relevant regulations and industry best practices and incorporate them into the RDQ Innovation processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biology, Data Science, Statistics, IT, or Health-related fields.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with data solutions, analytics, data science, machine learning, and reporting.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare-related industry.
  • Proven success in translating business problems into actionable plans and communicating complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead digital solutions and analytics initiatives to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, assess risks, identify trends, and develop mitigation strategies and improvement opportunities.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and develop strong collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strategic agility through anticipation of future trends and consequences, and adjustment of strategies accordingly.
  • Demonstrated enterprise mindset to think and act across functions and divisions.
  • Ability to make ethical, scientifically sound recommendations consistent with company policy/strategy and are cost-effective.
  • Demonstrated innovation, flexibility, open-mindedness, and adaptability to meet objectives in a rapidly changing environment with shifting priorities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Fluent in English, with proven professional working proficiency in English for reading, writing and speaking.
  • Commitment and passion for achieving desired outcomes (i.e., value, quality, urgency, cost).
  • Consistently demonstrates global thinking with cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Familiarity with QMS and Clinical Trial data; experience with Veeva Quality Suite and Tableau is a plus.
