About this opportunity:
Reporting to the Director Front End Development, the Senior Manager, Front End Development will develop the engineers and the front-end development process to improve our capital project program for the Lloyd and Superior Refinery. This role will work with the Portfolio Manager to partner in the stage gate process for early development projects, get projects to full funding, and to facilitate the project through the 5 stages working with each asset and the Project Execution group. This role will also collaborate with the Front-End Development and Execution teams to manage process design work and implement the work process (and improvements).
This position can be located in either in Calgary, AB, Lloydminster, AB or Superior, Wisconsin. The successful candidate would be required to travel to the other operating facilities. Travel would be expected to be 40-50%.
What you’ll do:
Prioritize the Asset development plans for Canada site and Superior Refinery, coordinating with Project Execution and Asset resources to get proper approval and assurance of the projects.
Oversee a group of engineers on resourcing the develop of the project at each asset. Develop the engineers on performing the front end development work and how to effective contract in resources to deliver technical value to the development of the project.
Work on implementing consistent practices with the rest of the Project Development department and Project Execution. Coordinate fit for purpose project assurance steps to assure alignment and technical review in the process, ensuring that minimum technical solution is followed
Support the Portfolio manager in ranking the portfolio based on approved risk methods or business benefit, assessing scope value and assure proper engineering standards and practices are properly applied
Maintain oversight of projects from early-stage project management through value realization, reallocating funds to ensure the maximization value of our portfolio
Manage project development operating expenses ensuring controls are implemented to manage budget expenditure
Work with finance and portfolio management to capitalize expenditures in front end development to minimize operating costs as appropriate and ensuring the alignment to budgets
Create a contracting strategy and bid and contract resources for front end development for the Cenovus Energy Portfolio
Focus on getting effective fit for purpose solutions in capital to minimize sustain capital cost to improve the portfolio’s ability to deliver more reliability improvements and still be competitive on capital spend for the assets size and complexity.
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada or the United States
Located in either in Calgary, AB, Lloydminster, AB, or Superior, WI
Bachelor's degree in engineering (Chemical Engineering preferably)
Professional Certification or License in Engineering (for example, P.E. License, EIT certification, P. Eng in Canada) is an asset
Minimum 16 years of technical experience and at least 12 years of direct downstream unit operations experience
