The Senior Industrial Engineer is responsible to establish and improve work systems by studying manufacturing process layout, work flow and work flow methods. Specific responsibilities include work cell design, assembly method development, labor standards maintenance, and process documentation. Develop and oversee safety, quality, inventory, and production record systems. Also responsible for capacity planning, resource utilization and efficiency metrics. Participate in continuous product and process improvement activities. Represent the interests of manufacturing on cross-functional product development teams.
Position Details:
· Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
· Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities.
· Perform engineering analysis and feasibility investigations for new or improved product or component design concepts.
· Utilize 3D CAD tools (Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferred) to develop and communicate assembly fixture concepts and 2D floor layouts.
· Design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace for maximum efficiency.
· Recommend design approaches considering customer specifications, product or component performance requirements, and manufacturing and assembly processes.
· Support the development of qualification test plans and procedures to assure that the performance and reliability of assembled products meet objectives.
· Provide direction to the model shop for the fabrication and assembly of prototypes and test set-ups. Assist with product introduction training.
· Provide estimates of resources and time required to meet objectives.
· Provide technical and other progress reports as required.
· Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of the finished product. Minitab experience preferred.
· Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards.
· Evaluate precision and accuracy of production and testing equipment and engineering drawings to formulate corrective action plan.
· Coordinate quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost.
· Recommend methods for improving utilization of personnel, material, and utilities.
· Estimate production cost and effect of product design changes for management review, action, and control.
· Selection, justification, purchase, validation, installation, and training of new capital equipment required for new or improved manufacturing processes.
· Support other Follett departments with technical documentation, problem solving and troubleshooting as required.
· Analyze, understand and implement industry best practices.
· Develop and design product improvements for existing products, qualify product changes, and document design via the ECO process.
· Direct the activities of less experienced engineering personnel.
· Represent the manufacturing organization in meetings to plan and coordinate work.
· Plan and manage large, complex manufacturing projects.
· Accomplish simultaneous projects. Resolve conflicting project requirements and priorities.
· Conduct on-site technical visits. Review and evaluate equipment, processes, and systems.
· Know and follow procedures and policies relevant to job functions and Follett Corporation.
· Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
· Experience of 10+ years in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
· Exposure to lean manufacturing, 5S and kaizen principles is beneficial.
· Experience on cross-functional product development teams.
· Team leadership experience and active participation in kaizen events.
· Demonstrated success handling simultaneous projects.
· Justify, purchase, and qualify new equipment.
· Strong analytical, organizational, planning and computer skills.
· Proficiency using Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Project preferred).
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Other:
· Travel requirements: Moderate travel as required in performance of job duties; to include travel between Follett business locations; to attend meetings/training outside the company as requested.
· Physical requirements: Occasional lifting of no more than 25 pounds.
