JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Human Resources Generalist is a strategic partner and operational lead responsible for the delivery of HR services across a specific business unit. This individual serves as a trusted advisor to plant managers, operations leaders, and employees.
The primary purpose of this role is to manage the full employee lifecycle—from talent acquisition and onboarding to performance management and employee relations—while ensuring strict compliance with MSHA/OSHA standards and federal/state labor laws. The successful candidate will be a champion of Martin Marietta’s culture, driving engagement and safety initiatives that support the company’s mission as a leading provider of natural resource-based building materials.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee concerns, conducting thorough investigations into grievances and ensuring fair and consistent application of company policies.
- Actively promote the "ONE Martin Marietta" culture, fostering an environment of mutual respect, inclusion, and diversity.
- Provide expert guidance to management and staff on the interpretation and execution of personnel policies, procedures, and programs.
- Lead the recruitment process for both technical (skilled trades, engineering) and non-technical roles, utilizing ATS and CRM tools to build a pipeline of diverse talent.
- Partner with hiring managers to develop innovative sourcing strategies, including community outreach, job fairs, and partnerships with local educational institutions.
- Implement engagement initiatives and recognition programs designed to improve morale and retention within plant and quarry environments.
- Act as the subject matter expert on company policies and the employee handbook, providing clear and consistent guidance to all staff levels.
- Administer the annual performance review process, ensuring timely completion and providing guidance to managers on delivering constructive feedback.
- Identify high-potential employees and collaborate with leadership to develop career paths and training plans that align with future business needs.
- Identify skill gaps and coordinate mandatory safety training, leadership development, and compliance-related webinars or workshops.
- Ensure all HR activities comply with federal and state regulations, including EEOC, FMLA, ADA, and FLSA.
- Support the administration of collective bargaining agreements, participating in grievance meetings and ensuring union-contract compliance.
- Work closely with Safety Managers to manage Workers' Compensation claims and ensure that HR practices support MSHA/OSHA safety standards.
- Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS (Human Resources Information System), processing promotions, transfers, and terminations with a high degree of data integrity.
- Generate and analyze HR metrics to provide actionable insights to regional leadership.
- Assist in local salary surveys and provide support during the annual benefits open enrollment period.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification is a plus
Work Experience
5+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in Heavy Industrial or Construction.
