Job Description

General Summary

Elite member of the Product InnovationTeam with the purpose to discover and pursue revolutionary product technologies and concepts. Will work alongside Product Development Engineers, Product Marketing and Product Management, members of the Product Innovation Team will map out and pursue future new products for Remington Ammunition.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities (*Essential Functions)

Work hand and hand with the Marketing Product Innovation Team in the discovery, concept develop, and testing of new product technologies and solutions.

Conceives, researches, plans, designs, develops, and implements (into Production) new products and systems

Support discovery of product opportunities. Seek out applicable technologies from adjacent industries.

Collaborate with Product Development Engineers to create product system requirements, develop product solutions, create verification and validation procedures.

Reports to the Technical Manager of the Product Innovation Team.

Identify new product opportunities through formal discovery process.

Discover product design technologies - vendors, industry/trade conferences, customer meetings, etc.

Evaluation of external and internal product concepts.

Engage adjacent industries in pursuit of product technology.

Develop product concept prototypes.

Support Marketing Innovation Team in discovery of product opportunities and concept evaluation.

Provide direction to Innovation support staff in concept development.

Interface with Product Engineers to vet product performance requirements, verification test procedures, manufacturing process technologies, etc.

Product competitive analysis.

Leverage industry expertise in analytical modeling, computational analysis, rapid prototyping.

Plans and directs support personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment and develops methods and procedures for testing products or systems.

Manages development projects to their completion by documenting and transferring manufacturing data to the Production Organization.

Possesses and applies a comprehensive engineering knowledge applicable to the design, development and testing of firearms and ammunition products.

Prepares technical reports for use by Engineering or Management personnel for long and short range planning or for use by Marketing personnel in sales or technical services activities.

Duties include but are not limited to: product conception; component/assembly design; detailed part modeling; interface with outside vendors; prototype builds, schedule generation; budget responsibilities; interface with all levels of management.

Qualifications, Educational Skills and Experience

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

B.S. in Engineering or Science from an accredited or nationally recognized college or university; and a minimum of four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Firearms and ammunition related experience a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ACTIVITIES

Proficient with CAD/CAM/CAE software, preferably SolidWorks, finite element analysis and mechanical simulation programs a plus.

Proficient with Microsoft PC based software.

Program management skills.

Background in ammunition development, ballistics, firearms, and related processes.

Experience related to military service, hunting, competitive shooting, and reloading.
