About this opportunity:
Cenovus is seeking a Senior Electrical Reliability Engineer for our Lima, OH, refinery. This individual plays a critical role in ensuring the continuous and reliable operation of refinery facilities by maintaining uninterrupted electrical power to equipment, process units, and infrastructure. This role focuses on the reliability and availability of the power distribution system, including 52 substations and thousands of electrical assets such as transformers, motors, and heaters. Key responsibilities include providing engineering support for projects and turnarounds, driving reliability improvements through analysis and preventive strategies, and performing power system modeling, relay configuration and integration. The role requires strong multi-functional collaboration and domain expertise in electrical systems.

What you’ll do:
Project support for Electrical engineering: Design, engineering, document & drawing review, construction, System Configuration, Hazop, QA/QC, FAT, SAT, wiring, commissioning & start-up
Reliability: Root cause analysis, Bad actor elimination, PM set up and optimization, FMEA, Cost & work analysis & optimization, Spare parts/material optimization, Obsolescence management.
Operations & maintenance support: Diagnosing & start-up, health & safety, meet operations and maintenance requirements and align priorities accordingly.
Power distribution – Design, engineering, maintenance, study & management: PMCS, power system study & modeling, relay, ground coordination study, arc flash study.
Develop and review standards, guidelines, process, procedures, checklists and safe work practices.
Who you are:
Legally authorized to work in the US.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Electrical/Electronics) with 8 or more years of industrial or engineering experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, or related industry.
Design/engineering/Construction/Solving experience on: Transformers, motors (Low, medium & high volt), Switchgears (medium & high volt), UPS, MCC, blowers, powerlines/feeders.
Programming/configuration/SCADA, Pi integration/solving experience on: Protective relays (SEL-3/4/5/7 series, GE-4/8, UR series & MM300), adjustable speed drives (AB PowerFlex 750), real time automation controllers-RTAC (SEL-2411) and Entellisys switchgear.
Configuration/fixing of: Software – Cimplicity (for HMI development), Kepware (OPC Server), Industrial networks (firewalls, servers, switches, gateways, GPS clocks etc.)
Knowledge of Industry standards, guideline, practices and laws: NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, OHSA, IEEE, NESC, NETA etc. Knowledge of Modbus TCP, Ethernet IP and SEL comm protocols.
