Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer
SMS group Inc. seeks Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer to work in Pittsburgh, PA. The Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer develops and supports execution of automation solutions for the modernization and new installation of Level 1 control systems associated with Electric Arc Furnaces, Ladle Metallurgical Furnaces, Vacuum Tank Degassers, Continuous Casters, Hot and Cold Rolling Mills, Metallurgy and Process Line equipment. Specific duties: Act as a Technical Systems Manager for multiple large, highly complex projects simultaneously. Work with Project Manager and Scheduler to create E&A Project Execution plans and schedule for large projects. Perform electrical engineering calculations for power requirements, transformer sizing, motor size requirements, etc. to size electrical equipment as needed. Preparation of Motor and Component list specific to the various mechanical and fluid systems in a Steel melt shop. Preparation of PLC based communication system architecture. Layout IO-Panel and Operator Station design based on Industry standard practices and Project specific requirements. Preparation of Technical Specifications for the procurement of Electrical equipment. Preparation of project specific technical documents like Cable lists and cabinet lists. Preparation of Functional Descriptions for various process areas. Obtain and compile quotations from sub-suppliers. Review quotations with proper approval channel. Prepare cost calculations and transfer this into a final quotation format as presented to the customer. Obtain approval of documents from the customer and prepare document transmittals. Interface, communicate and manage relationships with local project team (project managers, engineers, support personnel), internal experts as well as customers and suppliers to provide engineering solutions to technical issues and project-related matters.
Must possess, at a minimum,
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a directly related field of study, and 6 years of experience in an Electrical Engineering role for Steel Melt shops. Will also accept no degree and at least 8 years of experience in an Electrical Engineering role for Steel Melt shops. Any suitable combination of education, training or experience is acceptable. Previous work experience must have included experience with: At least two (2) years of experience with installation and commissioning in a Steel Melt shop; Electrical and automation practices; Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs); Automation platforms, such as Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell RSloigx5000, or comparable automation platforms; Selecting suitable electrical hardware equipment / components to suit project needs; and Making real-time engineering decisions based on issues encountered during the Engineering, Installation, and Commissioning Phases of the projects. Up to 50% domestic travel required.
