The Spencer Turbine Company is leading U.S. manufacturer of air and gas handling equipment. Our products are used in global industrial, municipal, commercial and institutional applications. The head office and manufacturing facility is based in Windsor, CT.
Position
Spencer is hiring a full-time Senior Electrical Engineer / PLC programmer to work closely with Sales, Engineering, and Operations to design, program and test electrical control panels and systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed project quotations based on customer and engineering requirements for the control systems.
- Resolve any questions through written and verbal communication with the customer.
- Produce drawings, schematics, item masters, BOM’s, sequence of operations and other required documentation to support and accompany the project.
- Work from established standards as well as special design requirements as required.
- Research, specify and document the selection of peripheral control components to interface with the system, based on customer specifications, performance, availability and cost.
- Develop and troubleshoot high level PLC programs.
- Troubleshoot in-house and field problems, plus supply start up assistance on the more sophisticated electrical control systems; some travel to customer job site required approximately 10% - 20%.
- Participate in the development of new and updating of existing Spencer Engineering Standards for electrical control.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a design / specification role.
- A self-starter requiring minimal supervision.
- Knowledge and use of MRP systems to develop items and BOM’s. Experience with Baan would be an advantage.
- Experience in working with and writing code for Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC systems, knowledge of Modicon and Mitsubishi PLC’s and code would be an advantage.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate both verbally and written at all levels of the organization and with the customer.
- Experience with industrial three phase motors and motor controls
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and AutoCAD Electrical.
- A working knowledge of UL508A would be an advantage.
