Senior Design Engineer
• Engineering Services Department Job Type Full-time Description Job Title: Senior Design Engineer

Reports to: Engineering Services Director

Position Objective: Review and/or develop design concepts and detailed design documentation in cooperation with both defined and conceptual customer opportunities.

Essential Functions of the Job (listed in order of importance):

  • Assess customer product needs and provide best solution sets, including manufacturability requirements, maximizing value proposition to the customer
  • Analyze customer specification/design data to determine feasibility and manufacturability
  • Work directly with customers to resolve design conflicts and ambiguous information, promoting Phoenix Mecano capabilities to solve customer problems
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, Account Managers, and customers to develop designs and solve application problems
  • Create 3D models and/or detailed layout drawings for applications
  • Apply applicable design and engineering standards to ensure product conformance, including NEC, OSHA, ASTM, EN, IECEx standards, and EU Directives (ATEX 94/9/EC)

Marginal Job Functions

  • Maintain pertinent logs, files, and design data
  • Improve products and processes, in conjunction with Quality and Manufacturing Engineers, in response to company metrics
  • Infrequent (<10%) travel may be required

Skills Required to Perform the Duties of the Job:

  • Ability to work in fast paced environment, adapt to assignment changes frequently
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CAD programs, preferably SolidWorks
  • Ability to engage customer directly in a technical manner to secure relationship and order
  • Ability to take limited information (technical or otherwise) and develop out of the box solutions to meet customer expectations
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel and Word and ability to apply knowledge day to day
  • Working knowledge of ERP and CRM systems and ability to apply
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks) and ability to use day to day
  • Ability to interact with all level of the organization including sales and manufacturing to complete tasks
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, reports, other documentation to meet position objectives, i.e. blueprints, bill of materials, routers, etc.
  • Ability to interact with others both verbally and in writing to meet the position objective
  • Ability to apply common sense and logic in the resolution of problems

Educational Requirements Needed to Perform the Duties of the Job:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing)
  • Five plus years' experience in low volume, engineer to order environment
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Weight Lifting (OR OTHER PHYSICAL) Requirements to Perform the Duties of the job:

  • Sit for long durations of time, up to 8 hours
  • Work at computer and keyboard for majority of work time using hands, fingers, arms to reach and feel
  • Required to listen and speak frequently while interacting with customers
  • Required to use vision, adjusting focus and depth perception, as well as using both close and distance vision routinely
