About Us 

Engineered Profiles is a mid-sized plastic extrusion manufacturer. Our facility operates multiple custom extrusion lines and downstream systems, supported by a strong maintenance department. We prioritize safety, uptime, and continuous improvement, and we’re looking for a Senior Controls Technician who can help elevate our electrical and automation capabilities. 

Job Summary:

We’re seeking a high-level Senior Controls Technician who can take ownership of complex troubleshooting, support engineering projects, and serve as a technical resource for the maintenance team. This role focuses on advanced electrical and controls diagnostics, system reliability, designing control systems from scratch, and managing the electrical scope of new projects to provide instructions for the team to execute on.
  
 This is a hands-on role for someone with deep electrical experience and strong power and control circuit knowledge, including the ability to interpret PLC logic and assist with improvements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead troubleshooting of electrical systems up to 480V 
  • Diagnose complex power /control / safety circuit and instrumentation issues 
  • Perform advanced PLC diagnostics (online monitoring, cross-referencing, fault analysis)
  • Make minor logic edits under engineering guidance 
  • Support engineering during equipment installation and upgrades and lead the electrical/controls scope of new projects 
  • Design control systems from scratch, including component selection, panel layouts, and wiring standards 
  • Lead root cause analysis for recurring electrical/controls issues
  • Maintain and update electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, and other documentation using AutoCAD 
  • Support production teams during major downtime events 
  • Mentor mechanics and maintenance technicians and provide technical guidance 
  • Follow all electrical safety and lockout/tagout procedures 
  • Assist with arc flash labeling updates and electrical compliance for new projects

Skills, Qualifications, Education and/or Relevant Experience:

Required:

  • Expert level electrical troubleshooting in an industrial environment
  • Strong understanding of power circuits, control circuits, safety circuits, and instrumentation 
  • Ability to interpret PLC logic and perform advanced diagnostics 
  • Experience with VFDs, sensors, encoders, and industrial networks 
  • Ability to read, interpret, and update electrical schematics and create new drawings in AutoCAD 
  • Strong communication and leadership skills 
  • Experience designing or modifying control systems 

Preferred:

  • Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, Mechatronics, or Automation/Controls Technology
  • 7–10+ years in an industrial electrical/controls role
  • Experience with Allen Bradley hardware (PLC5, SLC, CompactLogix, ControlLogix) 
  • Experience with AC & DC Motor and Drive Troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting equipment upgrades and installations and leading electrical/controls project tasks 
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E and industrial electrical safety practices 
  • Experience with continuous process manufacturing 
  • Experience mentoring or training other technicians 
  • Experience with pneumatic systems 
  • Familiarity with power quality issues and mitigation 

Additional Preferred Experience: 

  • Experience performing arc flash labeling updates
  • Experience integrating new equipment into existing production lines 
  • Strong project and documentation skills 
  • Experience with safety/compliance requirements for new equipment 
  • Exposure to analog troubleshooting (4–20 mA loops, scaling, noise issues) 
  • Experience with system level diagnostics across mechanical/electrical/controls boundaries
