Description

Summary: The Senior Controls Engineer, like other engineering levels, supports the Electrical Engineering Team to Concept, Design and Develop PLC controlled machinery products and systems for the hardscape and masonry industries using electrical, mechanical, and software technologies. We manufacture our own electrical panels and are focused on using Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independent Systems Development and Technical Guidance
  • Systems Projects Lead
  • Product line guidance and Improvement Projects
  • Act in a support role to other engineers and independently on more defined projects
  • Review equipment performance scopes
  • Review, create, and modify electrical schematics
  • Review and specify electrical components used in equipment Bill of Materials
  • Review, create and modify PLC and HMI programs and support software
  • Define requirements and test performance of motion control products and features
  • Troubleshoot equipment operation and communication networks
  • Work in a multiple project, multiple task, collaborative environment
  • Support of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) in accordance with design requirements, company protocols, processes and procedures
  • When the EE Manager is not available, this Engineering position will act on their behalf and in general for the following:
    • Delegate new projects to other engineers
    • Answer technical questions
    • Attend all interdepartmental meetings
      • Scheduling Meeting
      • Supply Agreement Meeting
      • Kickoff Meeting
      • Sign Off
  • Represent Electrical Engineering in technical discussions.
  • Be a technical advisor / mentor to our electrical engineers and assembly.
  • Be the auditor by double checking engineering work.
  • Act as project lead and department liaison on large and non-standard projects (ie. Stowell)
  • Support and ensure our engineers follow PLC & HMI standards
  • Help to maintain the integrity and up to date status of the Master Files
    • Electrical schematics
    • PLC program
    • HMI programs
  • Monitor and distribute work of electrical redlines to standard equipment and Field Update Notices for production projects.
  • Continue manage improvements by having engineers submit improvement ideas.
  • Looking for ways to help reduce electrical engineering hours
  • Monitor and distribute work relating to obsolete electrical components
  • Prioritize and directly help to engineers and Service Reps. on technical issues
  • Work with EE Manager on controls innovation and new technology
  • Meet customer expectations by clear and concise two-way communication.
  • Design and evaluate systems and products by applying sound principles of power management, system/component control, and human/machine interface.
  • Maximize the efficiency of the department by successfully accomplishing projects within the allotment time frame a focus on avoiding any non-value added word or re-work
  • Provide product, service or equipment technical and engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Determine improvements by analyzing cost-benefit ratios of equipment, supplies, or service applications in customer environment, engineering or proposing changes in equipment, processes or use of materials or services.
  • Comply with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; advising customer or product, service or equipment adherence to requirements; advising customer or needed actions
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Contribute to electrical engineering effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending option and courses of action; implementing directives.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed in a timely fashion and being willing to attempt new assignments or fill in for others as needed; accomplishes other duties as assigned.
  • Travel up to 20% to support customer needs.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Work, Excel, PPt, Outlook)
  • AutoCAD
  • Experience with Visual Basic, a plus

  • Rockwell closed-loop VFD as well as Servo drives and controls
  • (Graphical Interfaces) Factory Talk preferred

  • Experience with maintain production schedules, on multiple and simultaneous projects
