The Role:

The Senior Controls Engineer role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery. Expect a hands-on, highly collaborative environment, with a breadth of development tasks in the queue and constant learning around every corner.  Our engineering team comes from multi-megawatt, medium voltage industries and brings high-power experience to lower power (40kW to 10MW) applications. 

Industry experience along with talent and determination are absolutely required.  All applicants must have the ability to operate across multiple disciplines in a hands-on, lab-friendly environment, taking designs from concept through testing and then to successful delivery.


Responsibilities:

  • Analyze data and make appropriate scientific decision utilizing critical and unique expertise to develop and review detailed design specifications for projects
  • Oversee and evaluate plan performances and outcomes. Lead analysis of task, user, and organizational requirements for software applications 
  • Build statistical models, test hypotheses, visualize, summarize, interpret, and report results
  • Lead new project designs, manage software design and development work, meet deployment schedules, and balance tasks and priorities across multiple design concepts
  • Manage projects addressing the data collection, analysis, and integration needs, especially around the area of risk assessment Interface with a cross functional team for development and product release
  • Developing controls algorithms and implementing in embedded code.
  • Developing controls algorithms for different types of power converters
  • Collaborate with component engineers, design engineers, quality assurance, manufacturing, and part vendors on root cause and corrective action for failing products
  • Develop stable real-time control methodologies and systems
  • Propose new ideas that expand the modularity, performance, or otherwise improve the response of high-end power converters
  • Develop & implement modulators for different circuit topologies
  • Participate in the design, component selection, and layout of control PCBs
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers
  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Participate in organizing and writing results for primary publication
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices
  • Develop stable real-time control methodologies and systems

 

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Must have a detailed and extensive expertise of software development concepts, principles, and theory and have applied that knowledge in the development of new principles and concepts
  • Knowledge of embedded systems
  • Familiar with Power electronic stability or different type of modulators or modulations schemes
  • Done controls development using tools like Matlab and simulink
  • Have experience in motor controls or highly dynamic inverter controls
  • Experience with prototype hardware, lab or field testing
  • Experience collecting and analyzing typical power converter data such as currents, voltages, gating waveforms
  • Knowledge of embedded C
  • Familiar with filter compensation
  • Experience with electric vehicles or utilities grid scale inverters

 

 

Experience Requirements:

  • 7+ years of controls experience 
  • MA in Electrical engineering or equal experience 
  • Demonstrated experience controlling motors, active rectifiers, DC-DC converters, or grid-tied inverters.
  • Mastery of: stability analyses, rotating and stationary reference frames, closed and open loop controllers.
  • Proven mastery of various control methodologies including, but not limited to:

                      - Sensor & sensor less vector control

                      - PWM methods

  • Firmware / FPGA programming experience.
  • Experience with test and debugging
  • Circuit design and board layout experience.
