Automation Integration Engineer III
At CLX Engineering, we design and deliver automation systems that quietly carry millions of travelers through airports every year. When everything works, no one notices—and that’s the highest compliment. We’re looking for an Automation Integration Engineer III who takes pride in that kind of invisible excellence: someone who owns systems end-to-end, thrives in live environments, and wants to master the craft of airport automation.
This role is for the engineer who enjoys being the one people trust—the steady hand during commissioning, the problem-solver when systems are live, and the technical lead who sees a project through from concept to final hum. If you’ve worked around conveyor controls, baggage handling, or airport technologies like EDS machines, scanning arrays, or vision systems, you’ll feel at home here. If not—but you love complex systems, pressure-tested environments, and becoming a subject-matter expert—you’ll grow fast.
You’ll represent CLX on site, lead technical execution, and help deliver systems that simply work—night after night, flight after flight.
You’ll lead automation efforts from design through commissioning, serving as both technical expert and on-site leader.
Own on-site technical execution; provide daily updates and remove roadblocks
Serve as the primary technical and project contact for clients and internal teams
Support proposals, estimates, and early technical planning
Write, modify, and troubleshoot PLC code (RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, CCW)
Integrate industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet) and interface with VFDs, HMIs, SCADA, and third-party systems
Utilize Ignition for system integration and visualization
Design, program, test, and commission baggage handling and boarding bridge systems
Develop clean, intuitive HMI screens that operators actually want to use
Update AutoCAD drawings and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
Lead and supervise installation activities; troubleshoot and validate system performance
Execute in-house testing, site acceptance testing, and full commissioning
Prepare test plans, work plans, and detailed DOOs
Coordinate with logistics to ensure materials arrive when and where needed
Supervise CLX personnel and vendor crews on site
Collaborate with other engineers on shared programming and system design tasks
This is meaningful, high-impact work—but it isn’t a desk-only role.
Projects may require night shifts, off-hours work, and occasional overtime during commissioning
Travel is required, sometimes on short notice
Participation in a rotating on-call schedule is expected
Work is performed in active airport environments, including tight spaces, low-light areas, and variable temperatures
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work around live systems is required
If you value ownership, responsibility, and seeing complex systems come to life, these challenges tend to feel less like burdens and more like part of the craft.
4+ years of hands-on PLC programming experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, or similar)
Experience working in live, high-pressure industrial or transportation environments
Strong understanding of electrical schematics, controls systems, and industrial automation principles
Ability to interpret and execute TSA testing requirements and formal test plans
Proficiency in IEC PLC languages
HMI experience (FactoryTalk View preferred; Ignition or Wonderware acceptable)
Working knowledge of AutoCAD
Strong documentation, communication, and client-facing skills
Ability to lead crews and coordinate with clients, vendors, and trades
Willingness and ability to pass TSA SIDA clearance and background checks
