Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role involves designing, fabricating, assembling, and repairing a diverse range of tools, dies, gages, and fixtures, with a particular focus on CNC machining processes. The Sr. CNC Tool Maker will lead efforts in creating new CNC programs, optimizing machining processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is crucial in supporting both production and experimental engineering initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Tool and Die Fabrication:

  • Design, fabricate, and repair tools, fixtures, molds, gages, and dies across a variety of projects, including production, development, and specialized engineering tasks.
  • Interpret engineering blueprints, sketches, and directives accurately to ensure precise tool creation.
  • Perform in-process inspections to ensure work conforms to blueprint specifications.

CNC Programming and Machining:

  • Develop and implement new machining processes to produce or improve parts on CNC equipment.
  • Write, set up, and troubleshoot new CNC programs, ensuring efficient operation across multiple machine platforms, including Horizontal Mills, Vertical Mills, and Sub-Spindle Lathes.
  • Review part prints to identify tooling and fixture needs, developing new fixtures or altering existing ones as necessary.

Leadership and Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead and mentor machinists and supervisors, providing training on CNC programming, setup, and operation.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities in machining processes, driving these changes from concept to realization.
  • Work with Design Engineering to resolve manufacturing issues and enhance the manufacturability of product designs.
  • Assist in implementing and managing an effective machine data collection system.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure strict adherence to company safety, health, and environmental standards, as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Maintain general housekeeping standards within the immediate area of responsibility.

  • Be flexible to work across various shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) as required.
  • Perform related tasks as necessary to complete work assignments within the Tool Maker classification.
  • May check and top off lubricants as necessary.
  • May perform other duties as required.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a Tool and Die Certificate with at least two years of experience in CNC mills, lathes, and related machining equipment operation, programming, and setup; OR five years’ experience in similar capacities without a certificate.
  • Extensive experience in machine programming, setup, and operation of both manual and CNC equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, 2D and 3D models, and CAD files, with experience in MasterCAM or equivalent for CNC programming and setup.
  • Skilled in the use of precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers).

We Value:

  • Extensive experience (eight years or more) in assembling and inspecting complex parts within a production setting.
  • Experience in fabricating prototype parts, fixtures, and gages to extremely close tolerances using all available manufacturing techniques and technologies.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and the ability to present and implement positive change.
  • Exceptional teamwork skills and proven leadership experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office software and/or equivalent applications.

Physical/Mental Essential Functions:

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to control operation with hand or foot, and perform repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:
