About the Role:

The Operational Technology Engineering team defines and supports the automation technologies used across Target’s supply chain network. This role is focused on building and supporting SCADA systems, with Ignition as the primary platform, across highly automated distribution and fulfillment environments.

In this role, you will not only develop traditional SCADA functionality, but also leverage the Ignition platform as an application layer to build scalable, data-driven solutions that connect operations, controls, and enterprise systems.

  • Write and maintain Jython/Python scripts to support system logic, integrations and custom functionality
  • Integrate Ignition with PLCs, WCS/WES platforms, databases and enterprise systems using OPC UA, MQTT, APIs and other interfaces
  • Support commissioning, testing, and deployment of automation systems at new and existing sites
  • Troubleshoot issues across SCADA, controls, and integration layers, driving root cause resolution in production environments
  • Improve system scalability, performance and usability through standardization and reusable design patterns
  • Partner with internal teams and external vendors to deliver and sustain automation solutions
  • Document system design, configurations and support processes
  • Ensure systems follow OT security and access control standards in partnership with IT

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Knowledge of industrial protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
  • Experience working with SQL databases
  • Experience supporting commissioning, troubleshooting and live production systems
