Job Description

Blue Chip Talent, in partnership with a leading automotive manufacturing organization, is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Data & Controls Systems Engineer. This contract role is responsible for optimizing manufacturing data systems, improving PLC and SCADA communications, and enhancing production KPI accuracy across high-volume General Assembly operations. Candidates must be available to work onsite and support a rotating shift schedule.

Schedule

• Onsite position
• Rotating shift schedule required- 1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM CST
  • 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 12:00 AM CST
  • 3rd Shift: 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM CST

Job Duties

• Audit Allen-Bradley PLC programs, tag structures, and communication architectures to identify opportunities for improvement
• Assess Ignition SCADA configurations, gateway settings, transaction groups, database connections, and scripting environments
• Identify and eliminate data integrity issues, duplicate events, false fault conditions, and reporting inaccuracies
• Optimize real-time and historical manufacturing data pipelines to improve system reliability
• Configure data structures that accurately support MTTR, MTBF, OPR, and bottleneck analysis
• Implement tag rationalization, filtering strategies, and deadband adjustments to improve data quality
• Partner with controls, manufacturing, and production teams to implement sustainable process improvements
• Develop reporting processes that monitor data quality, operational performance, and continuous improvement initiatives

Skills & Experience

Required

• Extensive experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation) PLCs
• Strong knowledge of PLC tag management, architecture, and factory automation integration
• Hands-on experience with Ignition by Inductive Automation, including Python scripting, Transaction Groups, UDTs, gateway configuration, and database logging
• Experience working with manufacturing data acquisition systems, historians, and industrial networking
• Proficiency with Eplan Electric P8
• Experience supporting PanelView HMIs
• Experience within automotive or other high-volume manufacturing environments
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience

• Experience supporting General Assembly manufacturing operations
• Previous experience supporting automotive manufacturers
• Experience improving manufacturing KPI reporting and production data accuracy
• Knowledge of equipment downtime tracking, fault management, MTTR, MTBF, and OPR metrics
• Experience identifying production bottlenecks through manufacturing data analysis
• Experience optimizing industrial data pipelines and reporting systems
• Familiarity with continuous improvement initiatives in automated manufacturing environments
