Job Overview:

Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant – Audit is responsible for supporting audit and financial reporting functions within a regional professional services firm. This role focuses on three primary responsibilities: performing audit testing and risk assessments, preparing financial statements and related disclosures, and supporting client engagements while mentoring junior staff. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and efficient execution of client engagements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform detailed audit testing in accordance with established audit programs

• Prepare and draft financial statements, including footnotes and disclosures

• Gather and organize client financial information for audit and reporting purposes

• Conduct planning activities and risk assessments for client engagements

• Apply accounting knowledge across multiple engagements to ensure consistency and accuracy

• Communicate project status, issues, and questions to senior leadership

• Manage time effectively to meet deadlines and budget requirements

• Participate in internal meetings, training sessions, and continuing professional education (CPE)

• Serve as a point of contact for client inquiries and information requests

• Assist in training and mentoring junior staff members

• Utilize firm resources efficiently to maximize productivity and minimize unbillable time

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

• CPA or CPA candidate required

• Minimum of 3–5 years of professional accounting experience

• Experience in public accounting or financial services preferred

• Experience with audit procedures and financial reporting required

Special Requirements:

• Active CPA license or progress toward CPA certification

• Strong understanding of accounting principles and audit standards

• Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines

• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of client financial information

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards

• Experience with audit procedures, testing methodologies, and risk assessment processes

• Proficiency in accounting and audit software systems

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Effective written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• High attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

• Strong organizational and time management skills

Additional Desired Characteristics:

• Experience working with financial services or education sector clients

• Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements

Work Environment:

This position operates in a hybrid work environment within a regional office setting, combining in-office collaboration with remote work flexibility. The role may require extended hours during peak periods to meet client and engagement deadlines.
