The Semiconductor Automation Equipment Engineer is responsible for sustaining and improving the performance, reliability, and integration of fab automation systems within an assigned manufacturing area at Micron’s Manassas fab. This role partners closely with Manufacturing, Equipment Engineering, Facilities, IT, and automation vendors to resolve automation‑related issues, improve material flow, and support high‑throughput, stable production. The Automation Equipment Engineer applies data‑driven problem solving, strong technical judgment, and effective communication to drive continuous improvement in a highly automated semiconductor manufacturing environment.
Monitor and sustain automation equipment performance, responding to efficiency losses related to AMHS flow, tool interfaces, system availability, and automation‑driven process delays.
Trouble-shoot complex automation and material handling issues involving robotics, conveyors, stockers, controllers, sensors, and software interfaces using structured root‑cause analysis.
Develop, document, and implement Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) for automation system changes, upgrades, and configuration improvements.
Improve reaction mechanisms and procedures for automation‑related out‑of‑spec and out‑of‑control conditions impacting lot movement or tool availability.
Analyze common automation failure modes and system interruptions, reporting trends and corrective actions to internal stake-holders.
Use data extraction and analysis tools to monitor automation system health, utilization, and bottlenecks across the manufacturing line.
Support automation equipment availability, tool‑to‑tool material flow, system qualifications, holds, releases, and ramp activities.
Promote a strong safety culture by following and enforcing all safety and environmental policies related to automated equipment and material movement systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field AND experience working in a clean room/semiconductor environment.
Core Skills: Strong analytical, data‑driven problem‑solving skills and attention to detail. (Excel, JMP, or similar) and process control programs (SPACE) or similar
Collaboration & Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Semiconductor Manufacturing Experience: 3+ years of experience working in a semiconductor manufacturing or high‑volume production environment strongly preferred.
Semiconductor Experience: 3+ years of experience trouble-shooting semiconductor automated equipment, processes, cleanroom operations, and fab manufacturing flows.
Technical Tools: Experience with SPC, DOE, root‑cause analysis, and data analysis tools such as Excel, JMP, or similar systems.
