Position Summary

Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, the process engineer will be responsible for supporting manufacturing and maintenance operations to reduce defects, improve yield & productivity, increase capacity and reduce operational cost to manufacture the wire and cable products.

Principle Functional Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate safety leadership to and advance our Zero & Beyond safety culture.
  • Maintain active presence on the manufacturing floor and provide hands on troubleshooting of processes and equipment to drive root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Share expertise through training and leading others in the use of best practices.
  • ID/complete engineering and CI projects mitigating risk while optimizing yield, cost, quality, efficiency, capacity and productivity initiatives.
  • Strive to be an active user, advocate/mentor for Lean Sigma thinking/application.
  • Lead/influence teams of diverse individuals at various levels within the organization to strive for continuous improvement utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodologies to include but not limited to Measurement System Evaluation, Control charts, process capability, Pmap and FMEA
  • Develop, document, implement, sustain and optimize manufacturing processes and products using appropriate data (tracking cost variances, process control metrics, rework, scrap) and statistical tools.
  • Baseline understanding and utilization of control systems and instrumentation used to improve process capabilities.
  • Specify, procure and commission new manufacturing equipment and instrumentation, including capital cost justification and related documentation.
  • Maintain performance specifications and bills of material for all current products.
  • Collaborate with functional depts (quality, maintenance, manufacturing, supply chain etc.) to develop comprehensive standardized tools & equipment, methods & work SOPs and operating ranges/parameters on process metrics to sustain/improve productivity.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience (or 2 years’ wire & cable experience preferred)
  • Proven track record of results in the design, re-design, installation, operation and maintenance of manufacturing processes and equipment utilized in a continuous operation.
  • Results driven individual with a proven track record in a fast-paced manufacturing environment to reduce defects/cost, improve productivity.
  • Strong project management abilities.
  • Proven ability to use of MSE, DOE and SPC techniques (Lean Sigma GreenBelt/BlackBelt experience is a plus). Pursuit of a Prysmian Group GreenBelt certification is required during within in 2 yrs. of start.
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred experience

  • 5-7 years engineering experience or equivalent
  • Extrusion of multiple types of polymers (PVC, Nylon, Polyethylene).
  • Understanding of electrical testing and required systems (Hi-Pot testing).
  • Use of Root Cause analysis to identify and remove production defects.
  • Successfully led high performance work teams.
  • Implemented Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Established manufacturing process systems and standard work.
  • Has used statistical process control and is experienced in data analysis tools- power BI or Minitab
  • PLC and Drive system experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Mechanical, Electrical, metallurgical or other technical degree considered when supported with applicable experience.
