Job Description
Switch Technicians operate and troubleshoot various switches at the Aegis and SSDS facilities. Switch technicians will also be required to perfor a daily switch test to make sure that all switches are operational for customer use. These switches consist of NTDS A, B, D, and E interfaces, that reside on Data Terminal Switch (DTS), XCOM, Purvis, and NOSC. Our Fiber and CAT-5/CAT-6 interfaces reside on APCON, NetScout and Curtiss Wright switches. These are controlled via our Next Generation Switch Controller (NGSC). Our job is to troubleshoot, repair, and install new switches, and maintain a working network to support testing events at SCSC. Trouble shooting various switch paths for system interfaces such a bulleting/hard wiring an interface to remove the switch from the cable path to determine where the problem lies with the site equipment or the site switching. We support SCSC events working on two shifts and sometimes weekends, with a quarterly switch weekend for maintenance and repair.
The selected candidate will perform comprehensive equipment and system level trouble shooting. Successful candidates will provide system/equipment configuration and operational support for all deployed baseline AEGIS and SSDS variants.
Required Skills and Education
Minimum education and years of service required: High School/GED and at least 2 years demonstrated experience assessing and troubleshooting cable interface issues on Navy computer suites. Switch technicians will be required to work varied shifts based on the project needs and monthly switch weekends that allow for maintenance on varied switch types. Basic electronics knowledge and the ability to think outside the box to create switching runs for new equipment.
Security clearance requirement: This position requires the successful candidate to be able to obtain a Secret level clearance. The criteria for obtaining and holding a clearance are driven by US government requirements. You must be a US citizen to obtain a security clearance. Selected candidate will receive a contingent offer and start date will be delayed until an interim Secret clearance is granted.
