Job Title: Saw Operator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Overview:

The Saw Operator is responsible for accurately cutting tube and rod materials according to job specifications while maintaining safe and efficient operation of saw equipment. This role ensures timely preparation of materials to support production priorities and customer requirements. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Essential Duties: (Additional duties may be assigned as required.)

• Perform daily maintenance checks to ensure the saw is clean, operational, and in good working condition.

• Review and interpret rod drawings and related job documentation to ensure accurate cuts.

• Organize job paperwork based on priority, including premium, warranty, or standard orders, according to customer requirements and due dates.

• Retrieve required materials from stock shelves and prepare them for processing.

• Measure materials to the required lengths, adding a 1/8" allowance for machining where applicable.

• Operate abrasive and auto-feed saws to cut tubes and rods according to job priority.

• Match cut materials to rod drawings and verify accuracy before moving to storage or the next stage.

• Label cut stock with the appropriate job number and place in the designated location.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, orders, technical specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

• Able to operate abrasive cut saw and auto-feed saw.

• Proficiency in reading tape measures and using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

• Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane (certification may be required).

• Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder components is a plus.

• Strong troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

• Strong safety awareness and use of proper PPE.

• Good teamwork and communication skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to wear safety glasses and hard sole/close toed shoes with a low heel when walking through the manufacturing shop and/or repair shop whether as part of performing their job or just passing through. In addition, long hair must be tied back when around hazards of flame, machinery, or equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat (non-weather). The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
