SCHEDULES:

  • 1st Shift 5:00am-1:30pm (Monday-Friday)
  • 2nd Shift 1:30pm-12:00am (Monday-Thursday)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Saw Operator is responsible for setting up and operating various saws, such as the hem saw and auto saw, to cut materials for fabrication. The role involves selecting materials, ensuring quality control through inspections, and maintaining accurate records of material usage and job specifications.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Set up and operate hem saw and auto saw to cut materials per job specifications. 
  • Use provided job packets to determine material and job run specifications. 
  • Select materials from racking based on color coding on steel and job requirements. 
  • Adjust clamping devices to accommodate non-straight bars or tubes to ensure accurate cuts. 
  • Perform minimal set-up or adjustment when using cutting torch, keeping tolerance in mind. 
  • Return unused materials to their appropriate racking. 
  • Record material usage, cut pieces, and job times accurately on paperwork and the bar code system. 
  • Properly mark materials with job information and relevant material characteristics. 
  • Grind cut parts to remove burrs and maintain smooth edges as necessary. 
  • Inspect cut parts according to the quality sampling plan to ensure compliance with specifications. 
  • Set up and operate other fabrication machines as needed, with training. 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management, depending on shop needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-year experience in a manufacturing environment

Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other drawing aids
  • Ability to follow all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ability to use measuring devices such as calipers and tape measures.  

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and/or hear, and use hands to finger, handle, and touch objects, tools, and controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to handle materials or components. The employee must demonstrate attention to detail by working precisely and accurately with tools and/or machinery. Additionally, the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with equipment or processes is required. Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills are essential for operating tools and machinery safely.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office and manufacturing plant environment.  Employee will be required to wear all required personal protective equipment when on the manufacturing floor. This is an onsite role, requiring consistent presence at the location.
