Job Overview:

 

SUMMARY 

Inspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions in industrial or other setting to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health and environmental regulations by performing the following duties:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Understands and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection and occupational health and safety.   Coordinates all responses to official correspondence with all governmental agencies concerning safety and environmental issues
  •  Inspects and audits facility for potential environmental or safety concerns. Tracks safety and environmental concerns in appropriate system and drives resolution.   Escalates issues, as appropriate, to management.  Minimum audit requirements include but are not limited to:
    • Monthly Safety Audit
    • Monthly SPCC Inspection
    • Weekly Haz/Non Haz area inspection
    • Quarterly Stormwater inspection and observation completed
    • Yearly submission of Stormwater sampling to state
    • Monthly review of forklift/motorized equipment certification

 

  • Coordinates the safe handling and proper disposal of hazardous, non-hazardous, universal wastes or bio-waste.  Maintains proper documentation.    
  • Prepares annual hazardous waste reports, tracks generator status, maintains chemical inventory and MSDS/SDS files, coordinates fee payments, responds to governmental, community or customer requests, leads annual inspections by state agencies or property insurance agents.   Acts as the lead for annual ISO 14001 audit, develops processes that meet ISO standards.  
  • Ensures compliance to environmental permits, coordinates testing and documentation as required for compliance, tracks results against goals, presents results in Management Review and meetings and drives improvement.   Completes inspections and coordinates resolutions.  Performs or coordinates tests of working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards.
  • Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment such as glasses, helmets, goggles, ear plugs, respirators, clothing, etc.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
  • Inspects specified areas for fire prevention 
  • Investigates incidents or accidents including near misses and gathers and analyzes statistics. Prepares and submits accident reports in accordance with applicable regulatory and company requirements and maintains files.   Works with physicians, management and employees to meet medical restrictions and drive claims to resolution.
  • Updates OSHA log and files workers comp claims with carrier.  Drives claims to appropriate closure.
  • Maintains site security systems and employee files 
  • Coordinates and delivers safety and environmental training, coordinates forklift and other motorized vehicle licensing to ensure compliance.
  • Leads Step 2 grievance meetings and responses.
  • Enters requisitions in database and processes payments to vendors.
  • Works with management and employees to create a safe and environmental compliant working environment. Develops and maintains safety programs and incentive programs for safety awareness.  Leads monthly safety meeting.
  • Maintains professional and/or technical knowledge by actively participating in training and cross-training activities and assignments, reviewing materials or publications, and participating in professional organizations as applicable. Determines development options and realistic career goals to align personal needs with the needs of the business.  Communicates development and career goals and objectives to immediate supervisor and takes ownership of personal development plan.
  • Trains others in areas of proficiency or expertise.  Demonstrates use of safety equipment. 
  • Understands and follows all organizational policies, procedures and rules, ensuring that all laws are obeyed and equal employment, safety and environmental protection are practiced.    
  • Must be able to work in excess of eight hours per day or forty hours per week on any shift or travel as needed.  
  • Consistently demonstrates prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.   Conforms to the Environmental Management System procedures and requirements and follows the Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
  • Reports findings with recommendations of corrective action.
  • Maintains all EPA permits and correspondence with EPA.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by the Manager of Human Resources.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or four years related manufacturing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.  Must be able to read and understand English.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY 

 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
