Description:

Martin Marietta is looking for a Safety Specialist in the Kansas City region. The Safety Representative will be responsible for the daily safety and health tasks necessary to support Aggregate mining compliance. This includes safety and health administration, training, auditing, and providing direction for location safety and health compliance.
In addition, the position is responsible for assisting with the training of current employees with Martin Marietta's Guardian Angel Safety Culture as established. Conduct facility safety audits primarily for OSHA sites and MSHA sites. Reviews & communicates injury & liability loss trends and root cause analysis to their assigned operations groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Continuously cultivates a safety culture characterized by empowerment and individual responsibility using the Guardian Angel and Wingman concepts as the core safety values.
  • Provides safety orientation training for new hires
  • Conducts plant and mobile equipment safety audits for compliance with MSHA, OSHA, FMCSA (DOT) and Martin Marietta standards. Ensures resulting corrective actions are communicated to appropriate personnel and follow-up on completion status.
  • Compile and distribute training materials for monthly safety meetings. Create supplemental information for additional safety training including posters, memos, digital signage, and tool-box talks. Attend plant safety meetings regularly to ensure content is relevant and useful. Provide coaching on areas for improvement in safety meeting effectiveness as necessary.
  • Assist with investigating incidents/near-misses and identify root causes and corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Participate in the annual mobile van testing and industrial hygiene sampling and follow-up with any necessary corrective action.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of related experience
  • Valid US driver’s license

Work Environment

This position frequently works in underground and surface mining operations.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds from ground to waist, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, manual dexterity, repetitive motion, standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, bending and stooping, working from a elevated position and the ability to drive.

This is a full-time position that regularly requires long hours and weekend work. Occasional travel will be required.
