Job Summary: The Safety & Quality Assurance Manager position develops, implements, and manages the Safety systems ensuring continuous safe production, packaging and shipping of an array of products meeting or exceeding established quality standards, customer specifications, and production goals. Additionally, this position is responsible for monitoring current and potential health and safety risks and hazards across all locations of the organization, participating in corporate-level decision-making to ensure the health and safety aspects globally while mitigating all risks by assessing and developing the appropriate controls.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety Leadership
- Assist, plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC), and the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH).
- Provide guidance and direction to management team regarding compliance with OSHA and other local, state, and federal standards.
- Process quarterly LDOL forms which include man hours, lost time, and restricted time.
- Maintain Survey of Occupational injuries and illness to be reported once a year.
- Perform safety surveys and inspections, prepare written reports of findings, and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated, following up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Ensure that incident reports and investigations are completed and maintain records of all incidents.
- Conduct post-accident investigation and prepare report identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.
- Develop, evaluate and upgrade safety programs ensuring they are appropriate and compatible with industry standards.
- Ensure injured employees have immediate needs adequately met when injuries occur. Ensure records of waiver of treatment documentation is submitted to Human Resources (HR) to be maintained in employee records.
- Assists the HR Director with managing Worker’s Compensation claims/injuries as needed.
- Ensure that all documentation for job-related injuries is immediately processed and submitted to HR to be maintained in employee records.
- Be available to respond to injuries and emergency situations.
- Schedule Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid training and maintain all records.
- Schedule and conduct fire and tornado drills. Maintain and update maps indicating fire exit routes and safe areas for tornadoes and storms.
- Conduct facility inspections with the Director of Facilities Management on a regular basis and maintain records of the inspection.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service. Investigate (and correct) customer issues and complaints relating to quality.
- Supervise product inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity, accuracy, and high technical integrity.
- Provide technical guidance regarding product specifications, packaging, and labeling for current and potential products to manufacturing and shipping team.
- Formulate, document, and maintain quality programs, quality control standards, and on-going quality control objectives in accordance with current ISO 9001:2015 standards.
- Coordinate and lead the annual third-party ISO certification audit.
- Manage inspection criteria and procedures for quality inspections of all products in accordance with applicable government specs and the current ISO 9001:2015 standard.
- Provide, and oversee, inspection activity for products throughout production cycle (raw, in-process, finished) to ensure they meet all requirements and coordinate corrective action with production supervisors, procurement, and/or Customer Service.
- Interact with vendors to ensure raw materials meet quality requirements.
- Design, develop, and implement quality control training programs.
- Maintain active role on internal continuous improvement teams.
Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: College degree preferred in business, engineering, health & safety or other industrial-related field of study. ISO Certified internal auditor, or equivalent Quality System.
- Special Knowledge/Skills: Able to effectively detect product flaws and take corrective action to ensure that products are produced at desirable quality standards able to interpret and apply government specs. Working knowledge of ISO standards or other similar Quality Systems.
- Software: Have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to utilize accounting and payroll applications.
- Experience: Quality experience required; Internal Auditing experience required. Safety experience preferred.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Quality Inspectors.
- Physical: Able to effectively perform the specified duties, able to travel independently on a regular basis. Able to travel throughout the facility to safely and effectively manage all work responsibilities, breaks, and emergency evacuations, with or without a reasonable accommodation. Able to manage all self-care needs and activities of daily living as required to support successful employment, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Personality: Detail-oriented, conscientious, able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Must have the critical thinking skills required for investigation & problem solving.
- Working Conditions: Office and manufacturing facility, some travel required.
- Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours. May work some overtime hours during emergencies and when extraordinary circumstances warrant overtime to ensure adequate stabilization and issue resolution.
- Background Check and Drug Test Required: Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results.
