Job Overview:

Safety Manager — Large Industrial Construction Project (Albuquerque, NM)

Location: Albuquerque, NM Project Type: Large-scale industrial/manufacturing construction project (100,000+ sq ft), multi-year duration

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Safety Manager to lead the safety program on a large, active industrial construction site in Albuquerque. This is a hands-on leadership role, not a compliance-only position. You'll own the site's safety culture, lead a small safety team, and serve as the primary safety point of contact for a demanding client.

What You'll Do

  • Own and run the site's overall safety program
  • Lead and mentor safety engineers/staff on site
  • Serve as the daily safety point of contact between the project team and client
  • Investigate incidents, lead root cause analysis, and drive lessons-learned improvements
  • Manage PPE inventory and safety equipment across the site
  • Conduct visitor safety orientations
  • Run monthly safety committee meetings
  • Track and report on training compliance
  • Prepare and submit regular safety reports

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience performing safety officer duties on large construction projects
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification
  • 8 hours of documented safety training annually for the last 5 years
  • Education: High school diploma/GED plus 4 years of documented safety inspection/coordination experience, or an associate's degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering, or a related field plus 2 years of documented experience
  • Demonstrated experience in: construction site safety practices, safety and occupational health regulations, hazard assessment, hazardous materials handling, and emergency preparedness

What Makes a Strong Fit

  • A genuine leader, not an enforcer. You build buy-in around safety, you don't police people.
  • Comfortable being the polished, professional face of the project in front of a demanding client
  • Experience mentoring or leading other safety professionals
  • Strong communicator who can navigate difficult conversations in the field
