Job Description: RV Electrical Systems Designer

Job Title: RV Electrical Systems Designer

Department: Engineering / Product Development

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Position Summary

The RV Electrical Systems Designer is responsible for the design, development, and documentation of electrical systems for recreational vehicles (RVs). This position creates electrical schematics, wiring layouts, harness designs, and component specifications while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards and company quality requirements. The designer works closely with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality teams to develop reliable, cost-effective electrical systems that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Design complete 12V DC, 120V AC, and optional 48V electrical systems for recreational vehicles. 
• Develop and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and installation documentation. 
• Select and specify electrical components including: 
  • Batteries (lead-acid and lithium) 
  • Inverters and chargers 
  • Solar charging systems 
  • Transfer switches 
  • Distribution panels 
  • Circuit protection devices 
  • Wire, connectors, and terminals 
• Design wiring harnesses and cable routing for manufacturability and serviceability. 
• Ensure compliance with NEC codes, electrical theory and applicable UL standards. 
• Coordinate with manufacturing to improve assembly efficiency and reduce production costs. 
• Support prototype builds and troubleshoots electrical issues during development and production. 
• Conduct root cause analysis for field failures and implements corrective actions. 
• Create Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs). 
• Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate and qualify new electrical components. 
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality, reliability, and cost reduction. 
• Provide technical support to production, service, and customer support teams. 

Required Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school. Eighteen to twenty-four months’ related experience and/or training may be considered. 
• 3+ years of experience designing electrical systems. 
• Proficiency with CAD software for electrical design. 
• Strong understanding of: 
  • DC and AC electrical systems 
  • Wire sizing and circuit protection 
  • Battery technologies 
  • Power conversion systems 
  • Electrical troubleshooting 
• Experience creating wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and electrical documentation. 
• Excellent communication and organizational skills. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing electrical systems specifically for RVs.
• Experience with lithium battery systems and Battery Management Systems (BMS). 
• Experience with product validation and electrical testing.

• Office environment with regular interaction on the manufacturing floor. 
• Occasional travel to suppliers, trade shows, or customer locations. 
• Standard full-time schedule with additional hours as required to support project deadlines. 

Wage $28-$31
