Job Title: Roving Fire Watch

Shift: 12 hours per shift
Position Overview:
Mills Marine and Ship Repair, LLC is currently seeking vigilant and safety-conscious individuals to support the Roving Fire Watch at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY). This is a critical safety position designed to ensure fire hazards are identified and mitigated promptly in an industrial setting. The Roving Fire Watch will actively patrol designated areas to monitor potential fire risks, particularly in zones where hot work (such as welding) or areas with flammable materials are present.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively patrol work areas, particularly those with welding or other hot work activities, to detect and address potential fire hazards.
- Maintain a high level of vigilance and consistently monitor areas for unsafe conditions.
- Ensure that safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, is accessible and in proper working condition.
- Identify and report any hazards or unsafe practices that may lead to a fire incident.
- Respond immediately to fire alarms or fire-related emergencies as needed.
- Record and report any incidents or concerns regarding fire safety to supervisors.
- Follow all safety procedures in accordance with OSHA and other safety regulations.
- Maintain accountability of equipment issued by the company and/or government.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to promote a safety-first environment.
Clearance Requirement:
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must have or be able to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a related trade or industrial school is a plus.
- Experience: None required
- Must be able to maintain accountability of company and government-issued equipment.
- Steel Toe Shoes: Candidates must provide their own steel-toe safety footwear.
Job Requirements:
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify potential hazards.
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol assigned areas for extended periods (up to 12 hours).
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the work environment.
- Strong communication skills for reporting safety concerns and collaborating with supervisors.
- Ability to remain calm and act swiftly in the event of an emergency.
Physical Demands and Expectations:
- Regular physical activity includes walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, standing and prolonged sitting.
- Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance.
- Ability to use radio and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment.
