We’re looking for a Robotics Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 who is curious, eager to learn, and excited about robotics, automation, and manufacturing.

Position Summary

The Robotics Engineering Intern will support the operation and continuous improvement of robotic and automated systems under the guidance of engineering and project leadership. This internship will assist with Etna’s AWL project and related manufacturing initiatives focused on improving productivity, quality, safety, and operational efficiency.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with equipment evaluation, testing, installation, and operational integration for the AWL project.

  • Work alongside internal teams and technical partners to observe and assist with troubleshooting robotic and automated equipment.

  • Help develop and update preventive-maintenance documentation, standard operating procedures, visual work instructions, and employee training materials.

  • Assist with collecting and organizing equipment performance data to support quality and productivity improvements.

  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement activities.

  • Read technical drawings, equipment manuals, and operating procedures to support assigned projects.

  • Document findings, communicate progress, and bring questions or concerns to project leadership.

  • Report equipment deficiencies, safety concerns, and repair needs promptly.

  • Provide responsive, professional support to coworkers, customers, and project partners.

  • Follow all safety, health, and environmental requirements and maintain regular, dependable attendance.

What You Bring

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.

  • Foundational knowledge of engineering, robotics, automation, or mechanical systems through coursework or hands-on projects.

  • Interest in learning about Lean Manufacturing, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), and equipment integration.

  • Familiarity with CAD software and the ability to read basic technical drawings.

  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.

  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, follow instructions, and seek guidance when needed.

  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively with people in different roles.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Helpful, but Not Required

  • Robotics-team participation, engineering projects, previous internships, or manufacturing experience.

  • Exposure to robotic programming, PLCs, controls, or manufacturing simulation.

  • Relevant robotics, CAD, Lean, controls, or safety certifications.

What the Role Looks Like Day-to-Day

  • Work primarily indoors, with time spent in an active fabrication or manufacturing environment.

  • Frequently stand, walk, and use your hands to handle equipment or materials.

  • Occasionally bend, stoop, reach, climb, push, pull, carry, or lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Perform work requiring close and distance vision and depth perception.

  • Occasionally work outdoors or travel to company, vendor, customer, or job-site locations as needed.

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

  • Complete required substance-abuse screening.

Internship Term: Summer 2027
Schedule: Hours and Dates can be flexible depending on need of the student. 
Compensation: Negotiable
