Job Overview:

 
Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in a manufacturing environment an individual will operate a robot welder to fabricate parts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, attachments, accessories, and materials on robotic welder as required.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface table and hand tools.
  • Observe robotic welder while operating to detect malfunctions or non-conforming conditions.
  • Develops robotic path and motion to maximize efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Operates welding robot on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings and programmed control data.
  • Performs basic MIG and TIG welding techniques as needed.
  • Assist engineering in the design and configuration of parts to utilize the robotic welder.
  • Reads job specifications (e.g. blueprints, quality control plans and/or traveler notes) to determine type of welding and material requirements.
  • Examines finished work pieces to verify conformance with specifications according to operator inspection sheet, quality control plans and/or traveler notes using instruments such as gauges.
  • Reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the Production Supervisor.
  • Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on equipment and machines.
  • Performs work in accordance with established operational standards and processes.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Participates in Designing all fixtures for the robot.
  • Develop templates or tooling and other work aids to hold and align parts.
  • Observe tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Determines required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  • Control the processes of fitting, burning, and welding to avoid problems in relation to overheating, distortion, expansion, or shrinking of spare parts.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

 

  • Must be able to successfully complete the Physical Capacity Profile (PCP) to required standard.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a Pre-employment drug screen.
  • Experienced welder.
  • Skilled blueprint reader.
  • Ability to use tools ranging from common hand and power tools including grinders and cut off wheels to measuring instruments such as a tape measure and gauges.
  • Computer skills as they pertain to this job including but not limited to: Microsoft Office
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as work instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the colleague is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and use a step stool, frequently required to reach with hands and arms, uses hands to finger, handle, or touch objects. The colleague must be able to lift 25-50 lbs. frequently and lift 10-20 lbs. consistently. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
